☆ Part 12 ☆

And with that you were whisked away to get ready for a last minute performance. You'd be lying if you said you weren't excited to finally get to actually be in the show, but you were more nervous than anything. You had zero rehearsals, not a clue what you were doing, and no costume. Sahed insisted that all you had to do was follow what he said and you'd be fine and Kamille seemed more than happy to help throw something together for you to wear, which meant there was definitely no backing out of this now.

After what felt like not enough time at all, you had an outfit that matched Sahed's and Rainah let you borrow her mask just to match Sahed, not that you needed it because you didn't have a 3rd eye. You went back to Sahed's room after the costume was put together and he grinned at you.

"Look at us, all matchy-matchy" he said excitedly, looking you up and down.

"Yeah, though I'm pretty sure this is just some of your old clothes that Kamille made smaller so it would fit me" you laughed, seeing that the outfit was definitely something he would wear and there was no way that Kamille had made it that quickly.

"...yeah... but it looks better on you anyway! Now there's just one thing you need" he said enthusiastically, rummaging through his desk drawer for something and coming back over with what looked like a pencil.

"Whaaaaat?" You stared at him, unsure what exactly he was planning.

"Sit sit" he pulled the chair out from the desk and motioned for you to sit down. You decided to just go along with it and sat down.

"Ok shut your eyes" you noticed that it was the black eyeliner that he always wore and closed your eyes. You felt him put his hand on your face so he could tilt your head how he needed to, then he drew on the eyeliner.

"That didn't take very long, you've got less eyes" he chuckled, taking his hands back off of your face and poking your nose once.

"Hurry up folks, we've got a show to do!!" Someone in the hallway shouted, loudly knocking on all the doors as they passed. That was your cue to get going.

The two of you hurried to your places backstage to wait for your turn, somehow it felt like the acts were moving in slow motion, likely just because of the anticipation of getting to perform for once. After an eternity of waiting (which wasn't long enough) it was time for your act with Sahed. You heard Tonny announce the illusionist's act, just as he had all the times before, but this time it was your name instead of Rainah's.

"So we're really doing this then?" You whispered, looking over at Sahed, who was standing next to you in the wings.

"Yep, it's gonna be great!" He whispered back as he headed out to the middle of the ring. You followed after him, trying to match his energy, confidence and overall stage presence. The fluorescent lights beamed down on you, similar to how they did on the day you arrived and you thought about how far you'd come since then. You looked around, time felt like it was frozen as you scanned the crowd. There could easily be a thousand people watching right now and the prospect of that made you nervous. You could feel your heartbeat thumping in your ears and for a moment you felt as if you had forgotten how to move. Sahed took notice of this and put an arm around you, pulling you over to the middle of the ring with him and you instantly felt better, safer, and you knew it was going to be fine. He smiled and waved at the audience, waiting for the applause to quiet down so he could start his portion of the show.

It was amazing how good he was at all of this and the show went by smoothly. He was really good at explaining what you had to do to make the illusions work and you actually had a lot of fun working with him. The act didn't take very long and seemed to be over just as fast as it had started, time felt very different when you were a performer. You guys took your bows and he grabbed your hand and held it up with his, taking one final dramatic bow together before heading off to watch the rest of tonight's show. Sahed said he was going to check on Rainah so you ended up watching the show with Kamille instead. (As it turns out, Rainah was just tired and didn't want to perform that day)

"Great job!!! Y/n you guys were amazing, especially for it being your first time performing" Kamille whisper shouted excitedly.

"You definitely work well together if you know what I mean" she added in an even quieter voice, blocking her mouth as she said it as if that made it less conspicuous.

"Yeah good job, just be careful with that one" Julia commented on her way past, which you thought was weird. 'Maybe she was trying to be nice?' You thought, unsure what to make of what she said.
