Family Forever – Chapter 7

Paul, Denise, Joe, Nick, and Frankie had set up a dinner for Kevin and Dani out on the porch. Denise even made a special dinner for them, she made them garlic chicken, an arugula blue cheese salad, and she pared it with a bottle of white wine.

"This is nice," Kevin said as he sat down. He had no clue that his family was going to do this for them.

"Yes, it is," Dani said as she sat down too. "I am so tired after this week it is unbelievable, I just want to sleep for days, but I can tell you that isn't going to happen with Sophie," Dani said exhausted.

"How about we set up a schedule like we have when doing middle of the night changes, you do one night and I will do the next and so on," Kevin said.

"So, you are basically saying I should do tonight, so you will be able to sleep and will do tomorrow night," Dani said as she ate some of her salad.

"No, not necessarily, I am just saying that we should figure out a schedule," Kevin said. He had already finished his whole plate and salad. Dani had eaten all of her chicken; she was just finishing up her salad when Denise came out to clean up.

"We are going to stay here tonight to help with Sophie," Denise said. "So, when you are done, go upstairs, and get some sleep."

"No Mom, you have done enough, you and Dad stayed with her in the hospital one night, you don't need to stay another night," Kevin argued back.

"You guys are exhausted; I can just tell. Sophie is doing okay, she is in pain, but she is laughing at Joe who is making her laugh," Denise said as she shook her head and continued to clean up the dirty plates.

"The nurses showed us the way to lift her, so why don't we get her ready for bed and then you can take over Mom," Kevin said, he knew that he wasn't going to be able to argue with his mom anymore, plus he didn't have the energy to argue anymore, he couldn't even think that is how tired he was.

"I want to see how to lift her because I am going to have to when she comes back to school," Denise said. "I think Sophie is pretty much ready to lay down."

"Okay we will be right in, we have to talk to you guys after we get Sophie in bed," Dani said as she stood up and stretched.

Meanwhile, Joe was making everyone laugh in the kitchen including Sophie. They were all laughing with Kevin and Dani came in to retrieve Sophie.

"I'm tired," Sophie said as she closed her eyes.

"Oh, so now that Kevin and Dani come in you are tired. I see how it works Sophie. You don't like me anymore," Joe joked with Sophie.

"I do like you, it's just that I like Kevin and Dani more then you," Sophie joked back with Joe.

"Oh, Sophie you are going to get it now," Joe said as he came over and gave her a big hug, "good night Sophie, I will come over tomorrow sometime okay," Joe said as everyone came and said good night to her.

"My hips hurt," Sophie cried as they got in the elevator to go upstairs to Sophie's room. Sophie had a very long day, they had just got out of the hospital today from a very huge surgery, drove home, got cleaned up, in pajamas, ate dinner, and she was ready for bed.

"So, mom, you basically lift Sophie the same way that we used to, the nurse just said to be careful of her hips and make sure that they didn't bend too much for the first week or so," Kevin said as he unstrapped Sophie from her chair and lifted her onto the bed.

Sophie cried and cried and cried while they were lifting her on the bed. She did not like being moved one bit. She was now screaming, she didn't feel good, was in pain, and was over exhausted. "Shhh, Sophie the more you cry and tense up the more it's going to hurt," Dani tried to get Sophie calmed down.
