It had been nearly two weeks since the fight in the tavern, and Coriolanus finally got another day off.
Liville was buzzing with excitement that morning. She half expected Coriolanus to be up and ready by the time Sejanus left for work, but he decided to sleep in for his free day. She didn't mind, though. She stayed quiet so he could sleep longer, but she was filled with such energy for the day, she kept pacing the house.
Finally, at almost nine thirty, she heard his door open. Liville rushed over. "Good morning, Coriolanus!"
He flinched, his eyes being half closed, not expecting her to appear so quickly and loudly. "Good morning, Liville."
"What would you like to do today?" she asked him with a smile. "Would you like to go to the market? Or to a bakery? Or to the bookstore?" She smiled wider. "Or to the lake?"
"I thought you would like to spend time here-"
"No," she said, immediately. "You wanted me to wait for you to go out, remember?" She gave a short gesture around the house. "I've waited. You have a free day, where shall we go?"
"It's not common for me to have rest days, Liville. Are you sure you wouldn't rather just rest here? At home?"
He watched as her smile slowly dropped off her face. "Oh. Yes. Sorry-It is a rest day. And you've earned it. We will find something to do here. Of course."
It was obvious she was trying to hide her disappointment. But she wasn't doing a good job at it.
He gave a low sigh. "I may be up to go somewhere. I will think about it," he told her. "I'm going to take a shower."
"Okay!" she beamed. "I've told Lucy Gray you have the day off, and I told her not to come over, so that the whole day is ours. Oh! And breakfast has been made. I have milk for you."
He leaned towards her, and gave a tired kiss on the top of her head. "Thank you, Liville," he mumbled with sleep still in his voice.
She paced the house once more. When he was out of the shower, she served him a quick breakfast.
"How about the lake?" she asked him again. "We can relax out there, you know. Since you're tired. We can just go and lay down and you can even go back to sleep, right out there on the sand."
It wasn't sand out there, he recalled. It was loose dirt.
But he thought about it, and nodded. "The lake sounds alright."
She smiled wider. "Lucy Gray made me a swimsuit."
"Did she?"
"Yes. She crocheted it. It's like the one she had."
Coriolanus nearly dropped the fork in his hand, his eyes snapping to Liville. "Like hers?"
"Yes. She made it herself."
He thought back to what he recalled of Lucy Gray's swimsuit. He remembered that he'd disliked it because of how revealing it was. He recalled how he had internally criticized the Covey girl for having worn such little coverage around so many men, something no decent girl would ever do.
But...thinking of Liville in something similar. Or rather, thinking of him being able to see Liville in something similar, without anyone else around...
Coriolanus gave another quick nod. "Yes. Let's go to the lake."
"I'll go get ready," she beamed. She placed a quick couple of kisses on his cheek. "It's such a nice day for it too. I'm excited to just walk up there with you. The trail is absolutely beautiful the whole way there."
