Marissa and Kevin stood in the land clearing, flush and vast greenery surrounding them, the bees buzzed the air, the butterflies fluttered around the flowers and the rabbits hopped through the grasses.
The teens stood by the side of each other, the afternoon sun shining its golden rays on them, as they did their warm-ups.
"I can't believe I'm training on a Sunday." Marissa voiced, her hands stretched by her sides as she let out a tired sigh.
Kevin tilts his head slightly at her words, stopping his warm-up to observe her form. "You're not doing it right, you have to make sure your back is straight not hunched," he instructed.
Marissa pouted her lips at his words, before squinting her eyes in determination to get this right this time. She adjusted her posture, focusing intensely on every movement.
Kevin watches her quietly, observing her warm-up with a slight smile forming on his lips. 'She always sticks her tongue out when concentrating' Kevin thought, his gaze still on her.
'She looks ridiculous.' Kevin voiced in his head, as he let a light chuckle leave his lips gaining Marissa's attention.
"What so funny?" Marissa paused her movement giving him a suspicious glance as she folded her hands.
Kevin avoided meeting her eyes, his gaze shifting to the blazing orange sun on the blue sky. He tried to keep a straight face, hoping she'd drop the subject. "Nothing," he said casually.
Marissa hummed to herself, deciding to shrug it off. "Well, let's race then," Marissa teased, her eyes filled with firing excitement. "Since you're so distracted."
"You do know I will win right?" Kevin said with a hint of amusement in his voice, his face serious as he finally met her gaze.
"Don't care," Marissa shot back, skipping a few steps ahead, before breaking into a full sprint.
Kevin sighed his resolve to stay serious slipping away as he watched her carefree dash, walking towards her at a slow pace.

"And I win," Kevin declared smugly, his hand cleaning off the non-existent dust on his chest.
Not hearing any snarky comments from the ginger-haired girl, Kevin raised his brows in confusion turning his back to face her.
He found Marissa muttering to herself, a deep
scowl furrowing her brows, her gaze staring at the lush grass around her feet."Marissa?" Kevin called out to her, shocked at her quiet demeanour.
Too distracted by her thoughts to hear his voice, Kevin walked towards her slowly, placing his hand on her shoulders.
Marissa blinked at the contact, her sad eyes meeting Kevin, before she tried to mask her sadness with a forced smile. "Don't think I will let you win next time," Marissa said, trying to make her croak voice sound happy.
