On a Saturday afternoon, the sun is barely visible in the sky, and grey clouds create an eerie and dark atmosphere. Birds flutter and fly through the sky, finding rest in the holes and branches of the trees. The wind howls loudly, causing the grasses and tree branches to sway gently.
Marissa and Kevin jogged through the field, coming to an abrupt stop. Marissa, exhausted from running and jogging since morning, let out a dramatic but tired sigh as she dropped to the ground, her eyes gazing up at the grey sky.
Kevin, observing the red-haired girl's theatrics, simply rolled his eyes at her while checking the time on his phone.
"Why did we spend all morning and afternoon training, Coach?" Marissa exclaimed from her position on the ground, her hands and legs flailing.
"Aren't you determined to make the team?" Kevin shrugged, not understanding what the big deal was. "And since you had detention, we didn't train at all during the week."
He dropped his phone into his pocket and met her gaze. "Today is the right time to catch up," he added.
"Just say you want to hang out with me more," Marissa teased tiredly, her gaze shifting to the sky.
Kevin was caught off guard by her comment, his eyes widening before he quickly masked his surprise. "Don't be ridiculous," he added hastily, shutting his eyes and crossing his arms. "I'm just doing my part of the deal, ensuring you're fit to enter the team before the session ends. I keep my promises and don't joke about it."
"Like how you hold up to yours. It wouldn't be fair for me to slack off," Kevin added, his eyes opening momentarily to gauge her reaction.
Kevin's eyes widened in surprise as he realized that Marissa wasn't paying attention to anything he had been saying. Instead, her gaze was fixed on her phone as she sat on the ground, giggling at the screen with a smile.
"Of course, you weren't listening," Kevin sighed, annoyance creeping into his voice.
"Oh, s-sorry," Marissa replied, rubbing her neck shyly. "Carlos just sent a really funny video."
"Carlos?" Kevin asked, his lips tightening at the mention of the boy's name.
"Yes, he's pretty funny when he's not causing trouble," Marissa added with a smile, getting up from the ground.
"R...right," Kevin muttered, confused about what to make of the boy.
"Well, see you on Monday, I guess," Marissa said as she held onto her bag.
Suddenly, thunder rumbled in the sky, and the winds picked up, howling and growling everywhere.
"It seems like it's going to rain," Kevin added, squinting his eyes against the aggressive wind.
"Nah," Marissa said nonchalantly.
Before long, droplets of rain began to fall from the sky, quickly soaking the teens as the wind picked up speed.
Without wasting any time, Kevin grabbed Marissa's hand and pulled her away as they ran out of the field, the rain becoming heavier by the second.
"Where are we going?" Marissa shouted loudly to be heard over the noise.
"My place," Kevin responded hurriedly.
