Saphira's POV

Melon Island is not a normal island, just like any other island on the East Blue; it comes with its unique quirks. The people of Watermelon town, although loyal and hard working, have their own special quirks. The Mayor of Watermelon town might be old, but being a father and leader kept him on his toes. The recent guests, now residents of Watermelon town, are three young girls. They showed up from out of the blue, with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Many came to the conclusion that, seeing as their parents aren't around, they were chased out of their home. That's what they stuck with, since not one of the siblings want to tell them of their origins.

The island got its name from its fruition, that being melons. Any fruit that has a relation to melons grows lavishly here, like cantaloupe, honeydew, gallia melon, watermelon, muskmelon, and so on. That is where the town's riches come from. The demands of the island's fruits were high, but it wasn't so popular that people would know it's name at the top of their heads. The island is financial stable, yes, but because the marines refuse to bring them any protection, the island is highly targeted by bandits and pirates. I never asked the mayor why it was like that. Why the marines don't want to lend a helping hand. I never got the chance to either.

Night fell and the stars were shining brightly, just like every other night. The moon was also full. The night was peacefull, only to be ruined when disaster struck the town. No one saw it coming, but I should have expected it. The streets were painted red. The screams of the people echoed off the walls. The fires burning the buildings were so bright.

That night, a deep scar was left on the island.

Everyone was busy. Every resident of Watermelon town was cleaning up the town from the pirate attack earlier that day. Still, no one saw it coming. We should have known that the pirates on land weren't the entire crew. When the pirates that were waiting on the ship realized that their captain and crewmates were captured, they waited for the perfect time to attack. When the moon was at its highest, that's when they attacked. When everyone was tired from the long day of cleaning and fixing up the town, that's when they attacked. When the three siblings were separated, doing different things, that's when they attacked.

That night, our fates took a turn and changed us forever.

I was running between burning buildings, coughing as my lungs were filled with the smoke from the fires. I was searching for my siblings. My lungs were burning, the muscles in my legs aching, my eyes teary. But, I kept pushing. I couldn't stop, not until I found them. With a burning throat, I shouted as loud as I could for my siblings. I realized too late of my mistake. Pirates came out of nowhere, grinning evilly at me. There were five or more of them. I couldn't take them on, not by myself. Even if I wanted to, I didnt stood a chance against them. I ran for it, the pirates hot on my heels.

I didn't let my exhaustion stop me; I was probably running on adrenaline alone. I could hear them, their laughter, the shots from their guns, the bullets wizing past me as they kept on missing. It's not easy hitting a moving target. Even so, one stray bullet hit the target. A scream ripped from my throat as I fell to the ground. I lay there, motionless. The pirates stopped, seeing that someone hit their fleeing prey. With a couple of laughs, they left and searched for their next target. From a distance, someone witnessed the victim's fall. After the pirates left, they came out from their hiding spot and ran quickly to the motionless body.

"Saphira! Hey, Saphira!" They reached the motionless girl's body and started shaking her. "Please! Please wake up!" They continued with their shaking and shouting, tears were building in their eyes, but stopped when the older girl let out a painful groan. "Stop...screaming." She slowly lifted herself off the ground with the help of the younger girl. "Are you okay?!" The little girl shouted again, despite the older girl's warning. "I said...be quite." She groand with a grimace, "Any pirates near us...will hear you." She said breathlessly, "I'm glad you're alright...Winifred". The small girl finally let her tears fall, hugging her older sister tightly. The older girl groaned in pain, "Careful, one of their bullets got me." She said, gently removing her arms off her.
