Saphira POV:
It was midday, the sun being at its highest. It was lunch time. Work was boring as ever, rude customers, small tips and a lot of cleaning. A boring day, indeed. I was making my way to the clearing where I usually train. Lunch is usually an hour long, but today was a busy day so the boss shortened our break to half time. It pissed off a lot of people, including me. I won't have enough time to eat and train. So, I decided to skip lunch and train instead. If the mayor's wife finds out, she's going to kick my ass. Not like that was going to stop me. I need to get stronger. They're waiting for me.
I arrived at the clearing in five minutes, if it was a normal day and our lunch break wasn't cut short, I would have taken my time getting here. My training area is a fifteen minute walk from the restaurant where I work at, ten minutes if it was from the apartment. But, I can't complain right now, every second is too precious to waste. I walked towards the tree with a ball size rock in front of it. I crouched down in front of the rock and moved it out the way. Right there, in the tree is a small opening, big enough to put a single arm in it. I reached inside and pulled out a clothed item.
I unwrapped the cloth to reveal my duo short swords. I quickly attached the belt with the sheaths onto my hips. I moved to the next tree, the one I've been using ever since I started training. The broken bark and scars that was on the tree showed the continues use. I felt bad at first, but I didn't want to use my money to buy training dummies. I was saving up that money for when I leave to start my search for my sisters. I stood in front of the tree, doing some stretches before I started. I took my stance, blades drawn and ready.
I was going to start a series of attacks that I've practiced, when I heard something. I stood still, trying to hear it again. It was faint but it was there, like someone was whispering. It was then that I noticed that the wind was carrying the sound. I turned around and searched for any disturbance among the trees and the town. I pin pointed the sound, it sounded like there was a big commotion at the center of Logue Town. I can't really tell what's going on from over here, but it's definitely something big that I could hear it from all the way out here.
I sheathed my blades, grabbed my shoulder bag from off the floor and ran as fast as I could back to town. The closer I got the louder the screams and shouting got. I had to jump over obstacles and dodge a lot of tree branches. It wasn't long before dirt turn into cobblestones. The sound of my shoes echoed off the buildings as I ran. I used a lot of short cuts and alleyways to get to the center of town faster. I turned the final corner and had to stop myself from running into somebody. The streets were crowded; everyone came outside to see what was going on.
I grabbed the attention of the nearest person to me, ''Hey what's going on?'' I asked the man. ''I don't know either. I just heard there was a fight outside, don't know between who.'' He said, another man in front of us turned around, ''I heard it's the marines that are fighting with someone. Probably pirates as always.'' He said before turning around. 'Pirates?! At the center of town? How did they get so far without the marines noticing them?' I quickly made my way through the crowd to the center of where all the attention is. The shouting was getting louder and louder as I neared. People curse me as I shoved them out the way, like I cared.
When I got in front of the crowd, I quickly analyzed what I saw. It's pirates alright, that's obvious. But, I don't see any marines anywhere. That confused me. What confused me more is who were the pirates fighting? Were they fighting each other? 'Oh no, if there's two pirate crews here then there is going to be serious trouble'. I could hear the sound of rumbling from above, the clouds were dark and heavy with rain. 'Where did the sun go?' I scanned the surrounding area for any victims; there was a man in uniform laying on the ground by the feet of a beautiful woman that was holding a metal club over her shoulder. It was obvious that she was one of the pirates. And the man at her feet must be one of the marines that were watching the central. Where was the rest of the marines? If the marines don't make it in time before the battle breaks out, I'm going to take matters into my own hands. Not that I think I can take on two pirate crews on my own, but I can't stand by and do nothing.
