Silver's POV
It was a beautiful sight. The flames were hyponotizing; no one can seem to look away. But the truth is, nothing what their looking at was beautiful. No, it didn't give that feeling of beauty. The sound of fading screams on the wind speaks of great sorrow. The heat of the flames seems to have left a lingering feeling on their skins. The tears, the heart break, they shared it. No, it wasn't beautiful. It was a horrifying nightmare. I believed if the circumctances were different, this view in front of me would have made a beautiful painting on a canvas. A story behind colors. A very sad story.
...
On the quarterdeck of the ship, I watched as the small island disappears on the horizon. The island that my sisters and I thought we could finally call home. My heart was aching painfully, the tears never ending. I was able to see the last ship leave the island. I know my younger sister is on that ship. But, not Saphira. It pained me to leave her there. I was glad Winifred was asleep when it happened, when they shot our older sister down. It was hard to believe she was dead, if I hadn't seen it happen myself.
I breathed out a shaky breathe, giving the island one last look before turning around. I slowly made my way to the captain's quarters. I walked passed a lot of people that were crowding the deck of the small ship. The looks on their faces almost made me want to cry again. Everyone was suffering. Once I made it to the door of the captain's quarters, I gave it a light knock. I waited for a moment, but when it seems no one was going to open the door, I was going to knock again. I raised my fist but stopped when someone said, "Come in." It was muffled but I was able to hear it.
I made my way inside before closing the door behind me. I looked up at the man that was sitting behind the desk, with two other people in the room with him. I was shocked for a bit, "Where's the mayor?" My voice cracked when I asked. The man behind the desk sighed before answering, "Mayor Smith didn't make it onboard the ship. He gave orders and left to aid the people that weren't at the port." He explained. The news made my heart throb, the man was like a father figure to everyone, even to me and my sisters. "I'm sorry to hear that." I said softly. The men nodded their heads.
"We all are, for what happened. It was truly unfortunate. But, we must do our best to get past this." The man behind the desk said. "Where are we going anyway?" I asked curiously. "We're going to look for refuge by one of our neighboring islands, Logue Town to be more specific." He said before getting up from his chair. "Logue Town? Why there?" I asked curiously, I have heard of Logue Town before. It's famous for being the place where they executed the pirate king, Gold Roger. The man, I came to know as mister Long, moved from behind the desk towards the door. "There is people there the mayor are acquainted with. Before he left the port, he gave us instructions to find these friends of his." He explains as he opens the door and walks out, the other two men followed behind.
I sighed before following them. They moved to the quarterdeck of the ship. "How are we going to find these people?" I asked as I stood next to mister Long. "That's the thing kid, we don't know. The mayor was suppose to be here, he has the map that directs us to Logue Town. " He said gravely. I looked up to him in shock, "What? You don't know where Logue Town is?!" I exclaimed, the man only shook his head before letting out a long tired sigh. "No kid, we don't. We've never been to Logue Town, but we know of another neighboring island. It's been years, but hopefully the people of the island can help us out." He said before taking out a scope and searched the open seas. "Another island? What's the name of this island?" I asked curiously, now that I think about it, this was the longest conversation I had with a stranger. Saphira would have been proud.
The thought of Saphira made tears spring to my eyes. I quickly shook my head; I didn't want to start crying again. "The name of the island is Conomi, Conomi island. I use to visit Cocoyasi Village a lot when I was a kid, but that was years ago. Hopefully not much has changed, and that the people would be willing to help us out." He sounded almost unsure, but he gave me a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, the worst is behind us now." He ruffled her hair before leaving to attend to other matters. I sighed and walked towards the railing of the ship.
I was watching the open waters, almost admiring it. My thoughts were drifting; the movement of the water beneath the ship was hypnotizing. My thoughts finally settled on one thing, Winifred. I looked to the ship that's following us from behind. I was worried; she must have woken up already. I wish I was there with her, she must feel scared and alone. Me too. I didn't want to be alone either, but we would have to endure for now until we reach the island.
I try to keep a positive mind, but with everything that's happened, it seems impossible to do. I can't help but worry for what the future holds for us. But, I can only hope.
