If there was one thing JJ had mastered, it was lying. Truly, the guy could spin a story without a blink. That's how he'd turned sneaking into the Midsummers into an effortless art form.

He marched right up to the security guard with an air of authority –I keep finding empty glasses halfway down the beach –He complained, looking genuinely annoyed –Do me a favor and keep them under control, will you? I thought you were security

The guard, stunned by the critique, just blinked at him as JJ strolled right by without another word. Too easy, he thought with a smirk, weaving through the party, a tray of drinks in hand as he scanned the crowd for a familiar face.

He knew his mission from John B was clear—deliver the message to Sarah Cameron and slip out unnoticed. But there was someone else he wanted to see before he left...

JJ moved swiftly through the crowd, dodging clusters of dancers, his eyes locked on Sarah, who was lost in the middle of the dance floor. The sooner he handed her the "Vlad" note, the sooner he could slip away to find Maeve.

He was nearly there, only a few feet away, when an older man stopped him abruptly –Dewar's and tonic –The man ordered, expecting a quick response

–Right away, Mr. Dunleavy –JJ replied smoothly. As Dunleavy walked off, JJ stepped closer to Sarah, tapping her shoulder

She spun around in surprise –JJ?

JJ immediately began dancing, trying to blend in and look natural. He pressed a finger to his lips, signaling her to keep it subtle –Yup

–What? –She asked, moving along with him to avoid drawing attention

He pulled the note from his pocket and handed it to her –I got a note from Vlad

–From Vlad? –She echoed, eyeing the note as they danced in sync

–Yeah –He nodded –Just... read it

–Okay –The girl gave a knowing smile and walked away to open the note

JJ crept through the crowded room, trying to stay under the radar of the Kooks who might recognize him. When his gaze finally found the bar, he stopped when he saw Maeve standing next to Kiara. She was laughing, her head tilted to the side as she said something to her friend. The soft light from the bar highlighted her face, her eyes shining as she took a sip of her drink.

JJ stood there for a moment, unable to look away, as if time had slowed down just for him. He mentally rehearsed what he would say as he approached, perhaps a joke to make her smile, but before he could take a step, he felt a squeeze on his shoulder that made him snap out of his reverie. He glanced back, finding himself face-to-face with Rafe and Kelce.

–Hey, think you could grab me a Mai Tai, buddy? –Rafe asked, smirking

–Make it two, Pogue –Kelce chimed in with a smirk
