Maeve was already at work after spending a long night at Cole's place. The party at Kelce's had been a complete drag, filled with awkward conversations and a distinct lack of fun. But everything changed when she and Cole slipped away to the bedroom. Their connection deepened in those moments, and after they had been intimate, they decided to leave the dull atmosphere of the party behind and head straight to Cole's house.

Now, as she stood behind the bar at Figure Eight, she couldn't shake the feeling of resentment that bubbled beneath the surface. The vibrant atmosphere of the beach club felt suffocating to her today. The laughter and chatter of guests seemed distant, and all she could think about was how much she hated this place.

–Thank you, have a good day! –Maeve smiled at the customer, who didn't even acknowledge her as he walked away –Dork –She muttered under her breath, shaking her head in disbelief

–Keep doing that, and someday someone will actually listen to you –Her coworker joked, leaning against the counter

–Sorry –Maeve laughed along, but her irritation lingered –Did you see that?He didn't even say thank you

–And is that really new? –Peeler chimed in with a knowing grin –They're Kooks Maeve, don't expect much from them

–You know what I expect from them? –Maeve turned to her friend with a mock-serious expression –Money! –With that, she tossed a handful of cash bills into the air, watching them flutter down like confetti

–Okay, now you're crazy –Peeler laughed, and they both shook their heads, poking fun at the Kooks

Just then, Sarah Cameron strolled up to the counter, radiating effortless cool in her bikini and red shorts, a cap tilted casually on her head and an ecobag slung over her shoulder.

–Hey, girls! –Sarah greeted, her bright smile infectious

Peeler shot Maeve a look that clearly asked if she wanted to handle this. Maeve subtly gestured for her to take the lead, knowing Sarah was probably after something important.

–Sarah, hi! –Maeve called out as she stepped up to the register –What can I get for you today?

–Oh, I didn't come for a drink –She shook her head –I was actually wondering if I could talk to you while we walked through the club, what do you think?

Maeve hesitated, caught off guard. What did Sarah want to talk about?

–I'd love to, Sarah, but I really need to finish my shift here, you know? –She replied, trying to be polite

–Maeve, don't worry –Peeler interrupted them –I'll cover you

–That's very kind of you, but you don't need to-

–I insist –Peeler said smirking at her –There are only thirty minutes left before the afternoon crew arrives, relax

Maeve shot her a look that said, "I hate you." She knew Peeler was reveling in this moment, finding humor in her predicament.
