"It feels nice in here," Wes mumbles once we're inside my apartment.
"Yeah. I don't like being cold, so the heat practically stays on all winter."
"So, you like the summer better?" he asks.
"Yesss," I drag out. "Swimming, being able to enjoy the outdoors without freezing, riding with the windows down... All that is so much better than being bundled up inside." Well, bundled up alone...
"I like summer, too, but winter isn't that bad."
"Nah, I guess not. I did meet you during it."
He rolls his eyes. "You're constantly flirting."
"I mean, this is a date. I thought I was allowed to be a little flirty."
He simply shrugs and starts to slide off his shoes by the door. He starts walking to the couch, and the memory of the last time we were on it crashes into me. Okay, let's not think about that right now.
I kick my shoes off and lose my jacket before meeting his gaze. "Do you want some popcorn or something to drink?" I offer before we start the movie.
"I'm good. I'm still full."
"Okay." I flick the main light back off and take a seat beside him before grabbing the remote. I turn the tv on and go to one of my streaming programs. "Is there anything you want to watch?"
"Nothing in particular," he answers.
"Okay. Uh, what genres do you like?"
"Anything but romance and drama." I almost let a snort out at that. That's some of the best ones.
"You were definitely a straight guy before," I mumble, hoping it won't upset him. "You're missing out on some good shit. Not all chick flicks are cringey."
"I've seen plenty with my mom. I'm not missing much."
I playfully roll my eyes at his words. "So, comedy or thriller? Or maybe horror?"
"I don't really like horror movies much. For some reason, ever since I was a kid, I always have nightmares after watching them. Every single time. Whether it's actually scary or not." Aww.
"Okay. No horror then."
"Comedy's fine."
"Okay. I'll try to find us something good." I scroll through a few options before settling on something that doesn't sound too bad. "Is this okay?" I ask, glancing at him. His eyes read over the description before he nods. As it's coming on, I feel another chill run through me, still not warmed up from being outside. I reach and grab the blanket I have draped over the back of the couch. I notice Wes eyeing me as I unfold it. "Do you want some of it?" I ask.
He gives me a slow nod, getting me excited for something that's probably not going to happen. He just wants to share the blanket, not to be cuddled. I throw it over him, slightly grazing his leg in the process, but he doesn't complain.
"Thanks."
I nod and cover myself with the other half, realizing it's a little small, so I scoot just a bit closer to him. I turn my attention to the opening credits of the movie, but it's hard to when I notice his hands fidgeting. He pushes them under the blanket, making me realize they're probably cold. Maybe he'll warm up here soon. I'm tempted to turn the heat up some more.
"Hey," he says, practically whispering.
"What is it?" I ask, looking at him.
"Can I... try something?" An endless amount of things comes to mind at those words, and I'm trying to think of the most logical ones that would make sense in this moment. What does he want to try? I simply nod, not caring what it is. I'll let him do it.
