6:58 AM
I have 2 minutes until my alarm goes off. I can get the extra 2 minutes of sleep.
But Michelle you know that that's just a psychological trick because you won't actually be getting sleep.
Like now I am overthinking sleep itself. I need my sleep.
No, you need Starbucks.
Wait, no I don't I got 9 hours of sleep.
But still, Starbucks is a must.
I sit up in my bed and unlock my phone.
0-9-4-5
My phone starts vibrating in my hands.
7:00 AM
You wake up, flawless
Post up flawless
Ridin' round in it, flawless
I had set my alarm to Beyonce's "Flawless"
"Flossin' on that, Flawless!" I sing along, "This diamond, Flawless! My diamond, Flawless! This rock, Flawless! My Roc, Flawless!"
I hop out of my bed mimicking Queen B's moves singing at the top of my lungs, "I WOKE UP LIKE THIS, I WOKE UP LIKE THIS, WE FLAWLESS!"
The song continues on. I go to my bathroom and take a shower.

Once I come out, I stand in front of my full length mirror, dressed.
Today is this first day of senior year.
The year that I will remember for the rest of my life.
I grab my purse and head out going down the stairs.
My mom is in the kitchen.
"Good morning, Mom."
She turns to me, "Morning Sweetie, are you going to stay for breakfast or go eat with Becca."
"I'm going with Becca and Charles to Starbucks."
"Wow, how cliche are you? Walking in on the first day with a Grande Vanilla bean."
I smile and grab my car keys from the basket, "You forgot the caramel."
"Have a good day, love you."
"You too, love you mom."
I walk out to my car.
My car is a Black 2010 Lincoln MKZ. My mom got it for me as a birthday present for my 17th birthday.
My phone's ringtone went off.
"Hi Becca I'm about to leave my house now and swing by Charles's house, then yours."
"Okay, don't rush I'm just about to hop in the shower"
"Okay."
I started the car and headed to Charles' house.
*****
"What are you wearing?" Charles asks me when he gets in the car.
I look down at my shirt and jeans, "Um, clothes?"
"It's senior year. How are you not gonna dress for success?"
"Who do I need to dress for success for?" I ask restarting my car.
"The question is, Who do you not have to dress for success for?"
"Hun, I just gotta look good for myself."
I turn on the radio and Iggy's "Work" is on:
Work
Work
Work
Work
Working on my shit
LETS GET THIS WORK
I sped off to Becca's house.
"Can I have a have a Grande Vanilla Bean with extra whipped cream and caramel drizzled on the side," I ask the barista.
"Okay and what's your name?" She asks.
"Michelle. M-I-C-H-E-L-L-E."
"Anything else?"
"Nope. That's it."
She gives us our total which includes Becca, Charles and my drink. I pull out my debit card to pay.
"Hey, it's on ME this time," Charles says pulling out his card, "I don't give you gas money so I'LLpay."
"Well I don't give her gas money either, so I'LL pay," Becca says unfolding her wallet.
They start going back and forth and I slide my card to the barista mouthing the words, "Thank You".
She takes it, slides it on the register, and hands it back with my receipt.
"Have a great day."
"You too. C'mon guys."
"WAIT WHAT?" They say in unison.
We walk toward the tables.
"Michelle I was going to pay," Charles says.
"No I was gonna pay," Becca states.
"I had my card out," I say.
"Well YOU saw ME getting it ou-"
"My card was out before any of you guys so just be quiet it was paid for," I say interrupting Becca.
They go quiet.

I open my locker and put my purse in, grabbing my pens and notebooks.
"Just to let you know," I turn and see Becca. "I was gonna pay."
"B, are we still on this?" I close my locker and walk away from her.
"Hey, I'm just saying because you might be thinking 'These ungrateful friends,' but I am not ungrateful. I could have paid."
We turn the corner in the hallway.
RIIIIIIIIING. MORNING STUDENTS OF RICHARDSON HIGH SCHOOL. THAT WAS THE WARNING BELL YOU HAVE 3 MINUTES UNTIL YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE AUDITORIUM FOR THE MANDATORY ASSEMBLY. THANK YOU.
"Is that the new principal?" Becca asks.
"I would think so since Ms. Barnes left."
"I wonder if he's strict and old or hot and young," Becca says. "Imagine if he looked like a celebrity like MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY or CHRIS PRATT. Mmmmmm. Wouldn't that be a great way to kick off senior year?"
We enter the doors of the auditorium.
We walk down the center aisle to the first row where Charles is waiting for us.
"Wow is that Kitty the Saint, she's preggo?"
I turn my head, "Wher-"
I bump into someone.
I gasp, feeling this intense emotion, becoming out of breath.
I quickly turn my head to see who I bumped into, but the person was gone.
I freeze in place.
"Michelle are you okay, how are you out of breath? Wow, we are running on Saturday."
I turn around to see behind me and I see a boy with glasses looking at me out of breath, just like me.
What just happened?
