"Well, here is your room," My dad says, putting my bag on top of the bed.
"No. This is strictly temporary. You don't need to call this my room because MY room is at my mom's house."
I notice the creases forming on his forehead as he scrunches his nose.
"Okay, this is your temporary room. My room is next door. My Beta, Alfonzo, is directly across from you. Everyone else's is down the hall to the right after the 3 doors. The passcode is 0-9-4-5."
"Wow. That's the same code as my phone."
"Perfect, so you can remember it."
Coincidence? I think not.
"There is always someone guarding the door closer to us, for security purposes."
He walks toward the window.
"You have a perfect view from here. You can see the pack members and enemies that storm the courtyard. We haven't had an attack in months, but we are always on alert."
I walk to the window and see a huge courtyard surrounded by buildings and in the distance a forest.
"To your right, there is the building where we train."
I look to the right.
"And to the left is our dining hall, behind that is the school."
School.
"Wait what day is it?" I ask.
"It's Thursday. Yes, you have been asleep for over 2 days," he answers nonchalantly.
"Wait, but I have been missing school. It's the first week. I can't miss two days. What about my friends? My classes? I might be failing already." I walk toward my bed.
"They know that you are safe. You can continue to go to your current school or you can transfer to this one. Not only do you get real credits, but instead of P.E. you get combat training. You don't have to choose now, but do choose ASAP. And as future Alpha you need to get involved with the pack."
He walks toward the door, turning around and says, "Dinner is at 7. You just missed lunch, but if you're hungry you can call on the phone over there."
I look at the phone on the nightstand.
"You can order whatever you want the chefs are great. You can also call me, Alfonzo, the guard post, and even places off the territory. The numbers are by the phone."
I smiled, "Okay thank you."
"Your car is parked in the parking garage underneath this building. And Michelle?" he says turning.
"Yeah?"
"I'm glad to have you here."
"Glad to be here."
*****
"What do you guys have on the dinner menu today?" I ask the man on the phone.
"You can make a special request. You don't have to eat what the rest of the pack is eating," he responds.
"Yeah, I know."
"Please wait one moment while I grab the menu."
"Okay."
I wait patiently.
"Thank you for waiting. Well today is Italian night. Every weekday is a different theme. On weekends we have classic foods like salad, pizza and hamburgers. For appetizers there are Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks, Prosciutto di Parma bread rolls, and Zucchini Parmesan Crisps. The main course is a choice of Lasagna Cups, Parmesan Meatloaf, or Spaghetti Aglio e Olio. For dessert there is Cannoli Poke cake, Cream Puffs with custard filling, and Tiramisu. The themed drinks are Italian Cream Sodas and sparkling lemonade. Now, do you want to put a request to put your food on hold so that you don't risk having your choice of food empty by the time you get there?"
