Esha’s POV:
Rudra had left the penthouse, something about a meeting he couldn’t miss. The silence he left behind was unsettling, pressing down on me until I couldn’t take it anymore. I wandered aimlessly through the rooms until I noticed a door tucked away at the end of the hallway, half-hidden by the shadows. A door I’d never seen Rudra use.
Curiosity piqued, I tried the handle, surprised when it gave way. Inside, darkness loomed. My hand fumbled along the wall for a switch, and when I found it, the light revealed a space that looked as if time had stopped. The room was filled with things that felt eerily familiar: photos, notes, objects I hadn’t seen in years.
I moved closer, my gaze trailing over the items on the walls and shelves. There were photos of me as a child, some from high school, and even a few from just weeks ago, all captured from a distance. Each photo held little notes scribbled underneath—details about my location, what I was doing, or even who I was with. The meticulous attention made my skin crawl.
At the center of the wall was a picture that made my breath hitch. It was a photo of me, Ehaan, and Rudra from when we were children. We looked so happy, innocent, completely unaware of the paths our lives would take. My fingers hovered over the image, memories flashing back—moments when Ehaan and Rudra were inseparable and I was always tagging along, finding ways to keep them close.
But everything had shifted in middle school. There had been a falling-out, a clash between Ehaan and Rudra that left them in silence. I’d always believed it was just boys growing apart, that whatever rivalry grew between them was inevitable. I had no idea what had actually happened between them.
My gaze dropped to a journal lying open on a desk, and as I read through the pages, a chill spread through me. It wasn’t just pictures; Rudra had been tracking my every move, watching me from afar, detailing things I thought no one had noticed.
One entry stood out:
_"She thinks she’s the one in control, that she’s kept me at a distance, kept other girls away. If only she knew—she’s been under my control all along."_
The words echoed in my mind, each one hitting like a blow. For so long, I’d believed I held power over him. I thought I was the reason he didn’t get close to other girls, that I was the one pulling strings to keep him in my orbit. I’d even thought I was the one watching him from afar. But it was all a lie. Rudra had been guiding me all along, like a puppeteer manipulating strings I hadn’t even known existed.
I felt my stomach turn as I moved further into the room, noticing a computer left open on the desk. Files, messages, and more notes were scattered across the screen. Each one detailed parts of my life, interactions I thought were private, moments only I had cherished. He’d been watching, waiting, shaping every step I’d taken. Every choice I thought was mine was his.
The realization hit hard—Rudra had never let go of me, never truly allowed me to distance myself, even though I’d thought I was keeping him at arm’s length. His cold demeanor, his guarded words, the brief moments of warmth… it was all calculated. The possessive looks, the way he seemed to know things before I told him—it hadn’t been coincidence or intuition. He had been orchestrating it all, even the spaces I thought I controlled.
. Convinced that Rudra, despite his coldness, was genuine in some way. But it had all been an illusion, crafted by someone who knew me better than I knew myself.
I backed out of the room, my heart racing. Every memory, every look and touch, felt like it was warping, reshaping itself into something darker. I thought I’d been the one in control. But now, it was clear—I was just another part of his game, a pawn he’d manipulated for years.
The one I thought I knew, was a stranger hidden behind layers of calculated lies. And as I left that hidden room, a single thought burned in my mind: I wasn’t going to be his pawn anymore.
