Rebecca and I dash out the other exit of the tunnel, the policemen chasing after us. Our hands intertwined still as she runs into a direction neither of us know.
But I trust her. Yeah I know it sounds pathetic, but I do.
And as we move further and further away from the tunnel, the sirens and shouts fade into the background. Rebecca slowly starts to slow down and I copy her movements. She tries catching her breath, leaning against a brick wall in exhaustion. I stand there, watching her as I also try catching my breath as well.
She then looks at me, her chest slowing down as her breathing finally goes back to normal.
Our eyes stay locked. Neither one of us speaking. I don't think I want to. And for the first time her eyes showing hints of emotions I can't seem to recognise. I smile at her, a wide one to show that I'm thankful for her being here and helping me. If she didn't calm me down earlier on then I don't know what would have happened.
I clear my throat. "Thank you, Rebecca. For-for earlier. I don't know what would have happened if I-"
"It's okay. I knew this was something you don't normally do so I understand why that happened." She mumbles softly almost to herself. My heart skips a beat at her words. She doesn't know how much that means to me.
Gosh Rebecca why do you have to be so.. so sweet?! I can't think this way. This shouldn't be happening. All I'm meant to do is gain her trust to get information. But right now? I'm melting because of her stupid words..
For a moment or so we go back to being silent, a comforting silence as we continue to gaze into each other's eyes. Her eyes are so piercing it's hard to look away.
Rebecca clears her throat, breaking eye contact as she looks ahead of me and out into the beautiful city. I turn around to see as well. It's a beautiful night. The city lights illuminate Bangkok.
Our hands are still intertwined and finally Rebecca notices. She slowly lets go and immediately the warmth of her hand is replaced with the cold breeze.
"We should.. get you back home." She quietly states, her hand itching the back of her neck shyly. I smile softly once again as I nod. And finally we walk together side by side, our fingers brushing ever so often not realising we're walking that close together. It's cute when Rebecca slightly steps away when our fingers brush but moves closer automatically as we walk through the streets.
And maybe this could be a way to get closer to her. The more I make her shy, the more it'll be easier. I mean, I'm hanging with her because my father told me to, so I might as well do it properly.
.....
As Rebecca returns home from dropping Freen off first she climbs back into her bedroom, quickly but quietly. She closes her balcony door
shut and goes to lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling like she once was before Freen texted her earlier that night.
She takes a deep breath, closing her eyes trying to get Freen out her head, but nothing works. It's funny how before she left her room she was thinking about how she hates Freen being around her. And now? The exact opposite.
During the night she actually might of enjoyed herself being around Freen even if she doesn't fully want to admit it. The way her hand tingled every time their hands brushed as they walked. Or when they gazed into each other's eyes.
Something has changed and Rebecca absolutely hates it.
______________
The next day both girls are back at school. Rebecca makes her way towards the entrance, keeping her eyes on her phone exhaustedly as she didn't get no sleep last night.
The first bell rings meaning homeroom starts soon. She rolls her eyes in annoyance, going to her locker to get her books and other stuff she needs for the day. Rebecca puts her phone into her pocket and stuffs her bag full of her books.
Everyone is scurrying past her since the late bell is about to go off. She really doesn't care as she would rather be late if it means she spends less time sitting next to Freen. She's decided to try and distance herself away from Freen as much as possible.
Rebecca slams her locker door shut, turning around and starts to walk through the now empty corridor. Her footsteps being the loudest sound there. The late bell finally rings out through the school and she smiles to herself, relieved that the longer she takes the quicker homeroom will go.
As she continues walking someone rushes past her, shoving her shoulder and accidentally making her stumble back and the girl almost fall.
"Hey watch it!" Rebecca snaps, looking up and pausing. Freen.
She gulps slightly trying to steady herself. "I mean- be careful or you could get hurt." She slowly and quietly says as Freen watches her with amusement.
"Well ain't you sweet Rebecca." She smirks. Rebecca glares almost immediately, walking past her. "Whatever. Just stay out my way." She mumbles to herself.
Freen laughs and speeds towards her, both of them walking the same pace as they make their way to their class.
"Why are you late anyway? Ain't a nerd like you always early to class?" Rebecca questions, trying to sound rude as she walks. But that comment only makes Freen laugh as they arrive at the door of the homeroom.
"Slept in. Someone or something was on my mind." Freen explains making Rebecca freeze. Freen's smirk widens and she pushes open the door and entering the class, the teacher scolding her before telling Rebecca to get inside. She stands there for a few seconds, Freen's voice on repeat in her mind before she enters.
As they both sit at their table, Rebecca instantly keeps her focus on the teacher, not wanting to take any notice of Freen.
"Class I have an announcement." The teacher starts, silencing all the chatter.
"The principal has set up a trip for all seniors to attend as you have all really worked hard and deserve an award." Almost everyone starts whispering to one another in excitement.
"Silence!" Everyone shut up immediately.
"Now as I was saying." The teacher starts. "The trip is mandatory and is happening is two weeks time. We will all be going down to London in the United Kingdom to not only have fun but to also see the difference in culture." Everyone gasps.
Rebecca's face falls, knowing she would rather stay in Thailand than go down to that dull country. Freen on the other hand raises her eyebrows in excitement since this is a great opportunity to maybe get closer to Rebecca since no parents will be around. She smirks to herself, looking at Rebecca's grumpy face.
'This will be fun' Freen thinks to herself, already planning everything.
