Will's POV
"Hey, Will," my sister, Gretchen, said coming up behind me.
"Hi," I responded, tiredly.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing, I'm just-ugh! I don't know," I rested my head on the paperwork in front of me. In truth, I was worried about Nico. My boyfriend was on an errand for his father and I hadn't heard from him in a few days. Ok, more like a few weeks. I mean, I would've liked to keep him here but he'd gotten a lot better in the year he'd been at camp.
It was almost time for the anniversary party of Gaea's defeat and he had to be back by then, right?
"He'll be ok, Will," Gretchen told me, patting my back.
"It's just that I haven't heard from him in a few weeks and I'm so worried that something's happened to him." I admitted, raising my head from the desk.
"Why don't I take over from here?" Gretchen offered. "Go on a walk and clear your head."
"Fine," I said, standing up.
Gretchen sat down in the chair as I walked out of the infirmary and into the sunshine. I was just making my way down towards the lake when I heard a frail voice calling my name.
"Will?" it asked, The voice sounded strangely familiar. I turned around to see the frame of my boyfriend, doubled over in pain.
"Nico!" I exclaimed, running towards him. Right at that moment, Nico started to fall. I caught him and gently laid him on the ground. "Oh my gods, what happened!" I questioned. His abdomen was bleeding uncontrollably and he was a sickly shade of green.
"Cyclopes, then a hydra, then a pack of hellhounds," Nico gasped.
"We have to get you to the infirmary right now," I said, gathering Nico into my arms and lifting him up bridal style. I take off running. Wow, Nico is as light as a feather. When was the last time he's eaten?
I was about halfway across the camp when someone finally noticed us. I was completely oblivious to the person running beside me until they spoke up.
"What's going on?" the person asked.
"Can't talk," I gasped. "Little busy."
I burst into the infirmary and hastily laid Nico down on a bed. I saw Gretchen quickly grapping charts out of the corner of my eye. She put them on a rolling table and pushed it up to the side of Nico's bed, locking the wheels in place and went into the storage closet. I hurriedly removed Nico's shirt and started examining his wounds. Gretchen appeared at my side and started our routine checklist.
"Pulse?'
"Faint but steady."
"Breathing?"
"Short and shallow."
"Will?"
"Hhmm?" I look up from checking Nico's pupils. "Responsive."
Gretchen made a note on the chart. "Are you sure you don't want me to do this?"
"Yes, I'm sure," I sighed. Right now I just needed to pretend Nico was just another patient. Not my boyfriend, not my love, not my sunshine. I started examining the slashes on his stomach. They were so deep. Gretchen brought over a heart monitor and started hooking it up to him, as well as an IV. I cleaned some of the smaller wounds.
"Gretchen, can you get me some burn cream, a needle and thread, and some nectar?" I asked.
"Already on the table," She said, not looking up from the IV she was trying to put in. "Um, Will?"
