Chapter 5: Following the VisionAt dawn, the group gathered in a quiet corner of their temporary burrow, Fiver standing at the center. His vision from the night before had left him shaken, but he knew he had to share it with the others.
As they looked on, Fiver took a deep breath. "I saw London as it could become," he began, his voice steady but somber. "In the vision, the city was still, but not peaceful. There were no creatures left, only empty streets... and shadows."
The group exchanged uneasy glances, and Hazel encouraged him gently. "Go on, Fiver."
He closed his eyes, as if pulling the images from his memory. "It was as if a great darkness had fallen over everything. I saw lifeless bodies in the streets, fields turned red, and a silence so thick you could almost feel it. Whatever happened, it left nothing behind but emptiness."
Violet shivered, casting a worried look at Hazel, but Fiver pressed on. "I don't know if it's a warning or something that could come to pass, but I'm certain of one thing—we can't stay here."
Bigwig's jaw tightened, his usual bravado tempered by Fiver's intensity. "So, what are we supposed to do? Where can we go?"
Fiver met his gaze, his eyes filled with a quiet certainty. "There's a place—a high, lonely hill, far from the city and the reach of humans. I don't know how to explain it, but I feel it calling to us. If we reach it, I think we'll be safe."
The others looked to Hazel, awaiting his decision. Hazel nodded resolutely. "Then we follow you, Fiver. You've guided us through danger before, and we trust you."
Fiver gave a grateful smile and turned, leading them through the narrow London streets and across the outskirts of the city. They moved cautiously, staying close to one another, as Fiver navigated with an uncanny sense of purpose.
They paused at a hill overlooking the city, gazing back at the urban sprawl that now seemed haunted by Fiver's vision. "This is where it began," Fiver whispered, his voice barely audible. For a moment, the group imagined the scene he had described, and the weight of it filled them with a deep resolve.
With a final glance back, they turned their focus forward, heading into the unknown, determined to reach the place that Fiver believed would be their new sanctuary.
