Chapter 68: Shadows and Stomach Knots

The air was heavy as they walked, a thick, sickly smell hanging around them. Hazel led the group, moving slowly, cautiously, as they approached a shadowed hollow. The scene ahead made them all pause—a place littered with remnants of the fallen, silent witnesses to an earlier battle. The sight was haunting, each lifeless form telling a story of struggle and loss.

Fiver's stomach twisted painfully, the weight of his vision pressing down harder than ever. He clutched his abdomen, the knot of anxiety tightening with every step. The others exchanged worried glances, sensing his discomfort but unsure of what to say.

Dandelion reached over, his voice quiet. "Fiver... are you all right?"

Fiver nodded, but it was clear he was holding back a deep unease. "I thought... I thought I'd be used to it by now," he whispered. "But the visions—they never show this part. The reality is... worse."

Blackberry stepped closer, offering a supportive shoulder. "We'll face this together. Remember that."

With a shaky breath, Fiver steadied himself. Even though the sights and smells weighed heavily on him, he drew strength from his friends around him. They were all in this together, and with their support, he knew he could endure—even as the ache inside reminded him of the price of his gift.
