“Mr. Payne, I insist. We ran the tapes and realized your son was indeed in the right.”
“No he wasn't.”
“Please, sir. Let us revoke the suspension.”
“Well, it'll be a waste of time.”
“Why's that?”
This had been going on for what felt an hour. Principle Willens surprised them with an impromptu invitation back; too bad someone beat him to the punch.
Karen finished last minute revisions and documents, smiling earnestly. This was it. She truly couldn't help herself. With a flourish of a hand she flung said papers aside, shouting:
“Because, dean, my talented boy has been pulled out of millions of young kids to perform at the world's biggest arena; something you tried to stunt.”
“Oh, I assure you that was never the intention—”
“Just be sure to keep an eye out for this year's event and record on your television!”
Without so much as a ‘good-bye’ Karen ended the call, while her husband stared in bewilderment.
“That was quite rude, dear.”
Still smiling like an insatiable idiot the brown-haired woman shrugged.
“Not rude. It felt invigorating.”
Garrick glared.
“I don't know what's gotten into you, but normally you would have agreed.”
Shaking her head, Karen tsked playfully.
“This isn't a normal affair, sweety. Liam is going to be a star. Isn't it wonderful?”
Their nervous son sucked in a sharp breath. Yes. It was.
