It was almost time to hop onto the stage. Hunter had his new strings, Jax had his little jumps and Sonny had his shaky leg. I only had a dream, a dream of making this life of thrill mine.

"Are you ready?" Sonny asks, his voice sounding more secure than his body language ever could.

"Yup." I flip my drumstick in the air and catch it effortlessly. "Easy as pie."

Sonny had last-minute doubts about our new song; I could read them through his eyes. I admit the song was written and practiced in a rush, but I also had faith in us.

And I knew at least one person in the crowd would appreciate the song.

"Hey, you." A member of the crew approaches us. "You're up after this song." All of us audibly gasp, expectation growing in our bodies.

I have to make this my life.

The song ends and we make our way up the steps of the stage. The crowd is cheering and the mood is up. We're bound to have a great show.

I feel like I can't breathe when they step on the stage

I feel like I can't breathe when they step on the stage.

There's this expectation, the thirst for what will come next. There's fear, fear that something will go wrong.

They don't look too insecure, yet they are definitely less at ease than when they perform at the bar.

People cheer and they get ready to play.
