Chapter 18; Kamren
"Mom?" Now, I know I shouldn't be surprised, I seen her before in my dreams, but she's dead and i'm pretty sure that I'm not dead. Jay told me I was going to fine.
How did I even get here in the first place? A better question: Where the hell was I?
"Don't freak out, Kam." My mom walked toward me. She was rushed, flustered and she kept looking behind her into the hallway, like she was waiting for someone. "Greg and your father are going to send you back down."
"Back down? What do you mean back down? Where are we, mom?" I sat up from the couch I was laying on. I was obviously in a house, but whose house, I had no idea.
"You died, Kamren." She told me, grabbing my hand, trying to pull me up. I let her pull me, the blanket that was on me sliding onto the floor. I got up with her, and she pulled me out of the house.
"I died?" I asked, looking around. What was this supposed to be? Heaven?
"Don't you remember?"
"I thought I was going to wake up." I murmured, my eyes widening. I mean, I was expecting to die, welcoming it in my last moments. Why did I feel so sad? Why did I want to cry?
"We're gonna help you, sweetie."
"Stop being cryptic. Once you die, you stay dead, I know how it works." I rolled my eyes, the tears that started coming disappearing like they were never there.
"Not you." She whispered, pulling me threw the trees, and I could make out too dark shapes in the way we were heading. It was Greg and my dad, talking in urgent voices under their breathes. I couldn't make out what they were saying and they didn't turn to us after a few minutes. The sight of my dad made new tears appear, and this time my voice croaked when I talked.
"Daddy?" I threw myself at him. It was a different reaction then when I saw my mom for the first time, I was cold, and suspicious, but I didn't really care about the consequences or me being crazy this time around. I was cooped in a whole, talking to people that weren't even there. I died in the arms of my mate, who tried so hard to save me, but couldn't.
"I missed you." He kissed the top of my head and sucked up my tears for the second time.
"I missed you too." I told him, smiling and then giving a hug to Greg in return. "Even you, loser."
Greg smiled at me, before pulling me down to get me a noogie on the top of my head. My curled frizzed under his touch and despite how annoying it was, I laughed and barely tried to shove him off. It was fun. Like old times.
"You're the loser, loser." Greg babbled at me childishly. I stuck my tongue out, acting like a child myself.
"Hurry up, we don't have much time." My mom came closer, all of us so close I could feel the heat coming off of their bodies. It was weird considering they were dead. Then again, I was dead too.
"I don't think you'll remember this, Kam. Sorry." My dad said, kissing my head again and wrapping an arm around me. I started panicking. I wanted to remember this, why wouldn't I remember?
"What?" I asked, pulling away to look at him.
"We love you, Kam." My mom sprouted out, wrapping her arm around me next. More confusion was building up inside of me, what was happening?
"Bye loser. And if you do remember- Audrey, tell Audrey that I... that I will always love her. Always." Greg's voice cracked as he spoke, but he looked me in the eyes as he said it and all he had in his gaze was love, and it was beautiful. To be able to love someone that long, even if you're never with them, it almost broke my heart as I watched him look so sad before he turned hopeful. "I hope you'll remember this." Then he pulled me in for a hug too, kissing my head just like my father. That's what fathers do. But Greg never got to be one. My face crumpled and I turned back to my mom who was crying.
