Chapter 4; Kamren
“Can I stay home today?” I asked my sister as she looked up at me from her book. She was running late to work today, but wanted to finish the chapter she was reading because it ‘was so good’.
“Why? What’s wrong? Are you having boy troubles?” Audrey frowned, and tossed her red strawberry-smelling bookmark in her book.
“Not since the last time you asked.” I gave her an annoyed look. “I just don’t feel good.” In truth, I was just exhausted. My body weak from about three or four hours of sleep a day between schoolwork, boring lessons that I already know about, work, and homework. I basically have no time for friends, but sometimes I guess there are things that are more important than that.
“Sure, go back to bed. I’ll call you at lunch time.” And with that I headed to my room. I knew she would be leaving in five to ten minutes and I was asleep before I heard the door close behind her.
When I woke back up it was one o’clock, and I had a two missed calls from Audrey, but then a text message saying she called me out of work, I didn’t need to call her back and that she would tomorrow when she got back from her trip for work.
I made my way to the kitchen, my bare feet hitting the floor loudly. Rummaging though the fridge, I found a plate of about sixteen or seventeen buffalo chicken wings. I heated the whole plate up in the microwave for forty five seconds while chomping on a cold one I had taken from the plate. The spiciness stung my tongue but it tasted so good. I tossed the bone in the trash and grabbed the plate, eating two, then tossing the rest in the trash. I just was never hungry these days lately, and I could tell by looking at my figure. I lost at least six pounds this week.
I grabbed a cold water bottle from the fridge, took a few steps while walking to my room and then set it on a purple coaster on my side table.
I tried putting on one of my favorite movies, What Happens in Vegas, but I fell asleep before the characters even got to Vegas.
The only reason I woke up again was because of the sound of someone pounding on the door. I groaned and rolled over hoping that they would go away. The continued to bang, and they even rang the doorbell a couple times. That’s what had me stomping to the door and glaring at the person.
Alayna stood there, her face flushed as she stepped into the house without saying anything.
“Layne?” I asked, looking her over. She was obviously angry, her mouth set in a thin line.
“Where have you been?” She practically hissed at me. Her eyes were wild, glancing around as if checking for signs that we might be attacked.
“I didn’t feel good.” I lied to her, as I lied to Audrey earlier.
“I went to your work looking for you.” She stated, crossing her arms over her chest. Her eyes were watering, about to cry.
“What’s the matter?” I asked, ushering her into my room. Alayna sat on my bed immediately. I sat across from her and let her tell me everything that happened today. She told me about how Addie was missing, Liam was bit by a rogue, everything about the hospital and about how everything is our Alphas fault.
“If he had been here, then none of this would have happened. Liam would be fine, and we would have driven the rogues out.” Alayna sniffed.
“Where do you think Addie is?” I asked, ignoring her statement about Daniel.
“I don’t know. She was so mad at me, for changing fast, you know?” Alayna was starting to calm down and the flush in her cheeks was dying down.
