Chapter 5; Alayna

I spent the night at Kamren’s house. It was just the two of us because Audrey wouldn’t be home from her work trip until 10 am the next day. We didn’t do much because the rogues decided they wanted to be funny and find our alpha and chew my best friends leg into bits. Just kidding, it’s only black, and blue, and bloody. Why would they even think of trying his pack? Maybe because that’s where a normal alpha would be; trying to defend his pack.

We laughed at old memories all night, and then discussed how different Hayden is now. We both agreed that both Hayden and Dylan have been more distant now that they’ve mated. It’s not fun to see your best friend pick a guy over you. We all have to go through it though. As wolves we have to find our mate eventually or we’ll feel like we lost a part of us.

When I got home I saw my sister lying in her bed. Nice to know someone informed me she was finally home. I went down stairs to the kitchen, I’m aware it’s eleven am, but I want some answers. The pack meeting was at one so I had enough time for an interrogation. I grabbed the large pitcher of water out of the fridge. It was freezing, perfect for waking annoying sisters up.

I walked up the wooden staircase in the main foyer and opened the last door on the left, right across from my room. I took in the purple walls covered in posters from Vampire Diaries, Twilight and Lil’ Wayne. Then the hard wood floors with clothes pilled everywhere. My eyes couldn’t focus on just one thing, so I just walked over to the double bed in the center of the room. Here goes nothing.

I took off the cover and put in on her white side table, moving her phone to the window ledge above her bed. I quickly dumped the whole pitcher on her head. Her eyes shot open as she let out a scream, shooting out of her deep slumber, her blonde hair becoming darker as the water seeped in.

She looked over at me as I swore steam was coming out of her ears as her face turned dark red with anger. She threw some profanities at me as she shivered. “What do you want!?”

“Where the hell were you last night!?” I yelled back at her, equally as pissed off as she was. She stood up and went over to her dresser to change. “You know how worried I was! Liam almost got killed and then they showed up and fought Kamren! I thought you were dead Adalynn!”

“Okay mom? Sorry, didn’t know you had to babysit. I’m almost 17, just because you’re three minutes older doesn’t mean you can treat me like I’m a child.” Why was she always so difficult?

“Addie, I don’t want to be mom. But first you shut me out, and when you do talk to me it’s as if you hate me. Am I that awful?” I sat in her wicker chair in the corner of her room dropping the pitcher as she changed into a red V-neck and grey shorts. She pulled her hair into a bun and took a seat on the dry part of the bed.

“You get everything Layne. I don’t understand. You and I may look nothing alike but you have intense talent. And what can I do? Scream at someone. You’re gonna be an alphas’ mate. And I’m almost positive your mom and dad’s favorite.”

I laughed at that recalling last night as I had a minor tantrum. “Uh… I’m almost positive neither of us are on their good side.” I heard the laughter in my voice. “I kind of freaked on Hayden and Dylan, and then told Christopher Emerson that I was sorry he had such an awful son.”

She burst out laughing. “I heard about that, Dylan was so mad. It was kinda funny. Something about you getting in her mates face.”

“Then she got in mine!” I retorted.

She made a noise of disapproval. “Not a good idea.” See, even she knew.

“Are we good?” I bit my lip.
