Chapter 6; Kamren

“I’m sure you don’t really want to, But I think we need to, and not tell anyone either.” I told Layne. Her eyes were ringed with sleep, and her hair was sticking up in a bunch of directions.

“Your right, I don’t want to and I’m not. Freak. Get out of my window, go get sleep and I’ll talk to you when your sane again.” She gave me a look and laid back in her bed.

“No, Alayna. Listen to me.” I paused as she looked over at me again. “I need to do this, I just feel like I have to. I have this gut instinct to go.” She didn’t look convinced, so I continued. “I‘m just gonna go without you if you don’t come. I might get killed.”

She continued to stare at me, contemplating. “Fine. But we’re taking a bus at least half of the way there.” She started dragging out everyone of her drawers and shoving clothes into a spare backpack. “That instinct thing? If you’re mated to Daniel…”

I laughed as she trailed off. “I doubt it, Layne.”

“I need to leave a note. Oh Lord, my parents are going to kill me.” She winced, even as she said it. She was right though, her parents were going to kill her. They weren’t like Audrey, who would snap at me for doing something that foolish and ground me for a few days. Her mom would be hysterical, and her dad? I’m not even sure what he would do, but I’m pretty sure that it won’t be pretty.

I immediately felt guilty for asking-practically forcing- her to come with me. She would be in so much trouble, but what’s done is done.

Layne had just finished writing a note with a big black sharpie and was tip-toeing into the kitchen to place it on the kitchen table, the same place I had put it at my house. She came back into the room and I dropped from the top of the latter, my knees bent so I wouldn’t break my legs. (Also, the bite mark on my leg was still there and disgusting. I was beginning to think it was infected and needed to be checked out.) I wouldn’t die easily, which was something I loved about being a werewolf. I take extra risks that I probably shouldn’t and of course everyone scolds me. Oh well.

“What time is the bus coming?” Alayna asked when she climbed down the latter and set her feet on the ground.

“Well… I didn’t plan on taking the bus. I planned on just running in wolf form the whole time.” I gave her a shy smile as I walked next to her.

She stopped and glared at me. “Your going to ride the bus wearing that?” She eyed Greg’s shirt.

“I didn’t bring any other clothes besides this…” I trailed off, giving her another shy smile.

Alayna opened her bag and shoved a pair of shorts at me, which I took gratefully and pulled them on. She looked at my bare feet and rummaged through her bag to pull out a pair of black flip-flops, which she also tossed at me.

I slipped them on gratefully. “Thanks.” Layne nodded and pulled out her iphone. At first I thought maybe she was texting someone, but I decided to be nosy and check what she was doing, and she was checking bus times.

“There’s a bus in about twelve minutes, and we can make it to the bus stop in-” She checked her phone. “Seven or eight minutes.”

“Okay, let’s go then.” I smiled and skipped merrily. My stomach growled. “Did you by any chance bring money?”

She gave me a glare but when we got to the bus stop she handed me a five dollar bill from her pocket and pointed to the convenience store across the street. “You better be in there for less than a minute. It’s dark out here.” I looked both ways and crossed the street. “And get me a reeses!” She yelled to me as I walked through the door.
