Ichinose Honami POV:
"Vice President Nagumo, you still need to sign these two documents and then you're done for the day."
"Got it, thanks Honami."
"Of course," I gave Nagumo-senpai a cheerful smile.
It's been a week since I was lucky enough to get accepted into the student council. I ended up becoming the personal secretary to vice president Nagumo, similar to how Tachibana-senpai is President Horikita's secretary.
It's not exactly the position I was expecting. If anything, I was expecting to become a member that handles general affairs, since I heard that's how Kiriyama-senpai started when he himself joined the student council. But when I came in on Monday, I was told I'd be serving under Nagumo-senpai.
After my talk with Ayanokouji-kun and Katsuragi-kun at the karaoke place at Keyaki mall, I asked Nagumo-senpai if he had anything to do with the fact that my second student council application hadn't been rejected yet, but he gave me a rather dismissive answer.
I've been meaning to ask him again since that day, but every time I want to bring it up either I'm busy sorting documents or Nagumo-senpai is busy with student-related affairs. I can't possibly interrupt him for such a selfish question. In the first place, shouldn't I just be thankful that I was allowed in?
That's what I've been trying to tell myself, but this entire situation is just odd. Katsuragi-kun still hasn't heard anything of his most recent application, but he's already been rejected three separate times. It doesn't make any sense that someone like him is getting rejected without another word so often.
"Alright," I whispered to myself, trying to encourage myself to finally ask Nagumo-senpai if he did actually have a hand in my acceptance into the student council. If I procrastinate any longer, it might affect my work here and I might even be kicked out. I can't let that happen after everyone worked so hard to get me here.
"Honami?"
"Gah-!"
Suddenly I heard Nagumo-senpai address me from directly behind me. It kind of sounded like he leaned closer to my ear, but maybe that was just my own imagination tricking me.
"S- Sorry Vice President Nagumo, I was distracted by something. Did you need me for anything?" I asked him.
"Not necessarily, but I was curious about something. How was your first week in the student council? Has everything been like you hoped it'd be?"
"Ahaha... I can't really say that I had any expectations. I'm just happy I was accepted into the student council on my second application."
"You should feel proud as well, Honami," he locked eyes with me and smirked.
"Many current members of the student council applied three or more times before they were accepted. Only Horikita-senpai and I were accepted on our first attempt. It's quite a feat, really."
"About that, would you mind if I ask you a question, Vice President Nagumo?"
"I don't mind, however..."
Nagumo-senpai approached me, getting a little closer than I'm honestly comfortable with.
"Why so formal, Honami? You don't have to address me with that title, that's quite a mouthful isn't it? If you have to express seniority, just senpai will do."
"Uhm... Vice President Nagumo," I continued, to which Nagumo-senpai's face dropped for a fraction of a second before returning to normal.
"I know I've asked this before, but did you by chance have any say in my acceptance into the student council?"
