Move 12 - Midterms

"Good morning, Kiyotaka-kun!" Ichinose approached me from behind as I was making my way to school. Since getting to first-name basis with our little group, we've gotten to the point where the four of us would usually say hi to each other even when we're just passing by.

"Good morning, Honami. You seem excited today."

"Hardly, this is me trying to cope with the midterm results being released today." She said with the biggest smile on her face. Right, the midterm results are today. So that's why I saw several students with worried looks on their faces.

"Is it that bad? I figured your class would have no problem passing them."

Ichinose sighed, "I'm sure all of them did great. A lot of them have been studying in groups to make sure nobody's procrastinating. It's just 'what if', you know?"

"I can't say I relate."

"Look at smarty pants over here," she pouted, "Kouhei-kun has been holding study sessions too, right? Did you attend any?"

"I did, but I found out I study a lot better without any company."

In reality I didn't mind studying around other people. Most questions that were asked by the people attending were genuine questions that I can see the average person struggle with. But there's a problem with that.

I'm not average, and studying at this academic level is the same as one of my classmates having to study simple division. I was on auto-pilot for those 2 hours in the library, just mindlessly solving problems while occasionally asking Katsuragi some questions so as to not arouse any suspicion.

"So does that mean you wouldn't be up for a HKR Crew study session?" Ichinose asked.

"If you don't call it that, I'll consider it at least."

"You really hate the name that much?!"

"Just kidding. Maybe when finals come around we can study with the four of us."

"Sounds good!" Ichinose smiled at me before noticing one of her friends in front of us. A girl with black hair in a neatly done ponytail. I'm guessing that's Amikura Mako, a friend Ichinose has mentioned before.

"I'll be going on ahead, Kiyotaka-kun. Make sure to let me know how you and Kouhei-kun did on the midterms!"

"No need to worry, you'll be the first one I text. I'll see you around, Honami."

With that, Ichinose waved at me once more before picking up the pace to catch up to her classmate, leaving me alone for the rest of my trip to class.

After a few more minutes I made it to the classroom. I'm surprisingly early for a change. Usually I would come in 5-10 minutes before classes start, but today I decided I'd change things up and arrive 20 minutes early.

Am I nervous about the midterm results? Definitely not. I could tell anyone in my class right now my exact scores for any subject, with ease at that. The midterms were easier compared to our entrance exam, so nobody should have had trouble with it if they just kept up their studies.

"Ayanokouji-kun? Early for a change, huh?" Sanada approached his seat while looking at me in slight confusion.

"I couldn't sleep," I shrugged.

"Are you nervous about the midterms as well?"

"Not really. I'm sure everyone did well, you included."

"Haha, you think so?" Sanada gave me an awkward smile.

"If anything, I think Kouhei might be the most nervous."
