Grey's POV

It was a Tuesday morning when Officer Chen came into my office.
Like usual she knocked politely on the glass door before I waved her in and she sat down on one of the chairs.
"What did you want to speak about Officer Chen?"
"Rosalind sir. Rosalind Dyer."
You could have heard someone breathe.
"What... About her?"
"She's been sending someone to give me death threats."
Oh. Wow. I maybe expected I don't even know. But death threats was an entirely different issue.
"How long has this been going on for?"
"Three months, sir."
"In what form are these threats taking place?"
Lucy pulled a preprepared folder out of her bag and handed it to me.
Screenshots and photos of letters, texts, a whole manner of disturbing messages that were clearly death threats.
"How do you know that these are connected to Rosalind Dyer?"
I still hadn't a clue how the two were related, sure I would guess that they were, I only know of one killer who wanted specifically Lucy dead. But still I needed evidence.
"She's been calling me."
"She's been WHAT?! You know she's in prison. I need to call them to confiscate that phone."
"You know she'll just get a new one."
I sighed, knowing Lucy was absolutely correct. Rosalind Dyer had thousands of connections, more criminals liked her than there were cops in LA. And I didn't really want to pull a string that would only end the way it started, just with a few more enemies.
"How many calls? How frequently?"
"Four a day for the last 3 months. Every six hours, on the dot. Not a second early or late."
"And your sure these are connected to the threats because?..."
"The first threat, someone spelt in human blood on Tim's lawn. Rosalind called and told me to look outside."
That wasn't unnerving at all. For a woman who was going to be in jail for the rest of forever, she sure still had a lot of power outside.
"What do you want to do about it Officer Chen?"
"I was to investigate. Alone if possible sir. Avoid mass panic."
I nodded. Although it was probably a stupid idea to let Chen singlehandedly investigate a woman who's protégés had her buried alive and abused and almost killed multiple times.
"Tell no one else Chen. Continue as normal, document the threats. Any current suspects?"
"Suspect in the hit and run who's blood was used to write the first threat sounds a lot like my ex, Emmet Lang."
"I assume Tim told you he broke out of prison?"
"No, and Tim doesn't know that I know he escaped."
Well that was surprising? I told Officer Bradford to tell his...
Girlfriend? Ex girlfriend? Roommate? Mother of his child? Co-worker? Old rookie? I wasn't really sure what the two of them were to eachother anymore, their relationship status seemed to change every week and I could no longer keep up.

"So how do you know that Emmet escaped?"
"A certain serial killer told me on our first phone call. The morning after he broke out, he called to inform me that he was 'coming for me' in her words"
"

I'll let you investigate Chen. To everyone else, this is officially undercover work. Tell no one unless you want both of us to loose our jobs for not telling anyone about this. You are going undercover, I'll send you the details about your 'assignment' later. I'm your handler during this, I expect check ins about your progress infiltrating this 'highly dangerous gang ' every week. Dismissed.

This conversation had taken an entirely different path to what I envisioned when Officer Chen stepped into the door.
A serial killer and he abusive ex who escaped prison wanted Lucy dead. And she wanted to singlehandedly stop them.
And for some probably stupid reason, I was going to let her.

Lucy's POV

I left Grey's officer happy and successful.
I was allowed to investigate what I wanted to, about Emmet and Rosalind. And no one else has to know. No one else was allowed to know.
Good thing I was good at keeping secrets.
It seemed like I was going on another 'undercover assignment.'

ne thing I always liked about the watch commander was his ability to bend the rules occasionally.
To everyone else, I was going undercover.
Realistically I was tracking down whoever had been giving me threats. So probably my ex. I'm coming for you Emmet Lang.
And this time I won't be afraid of you.

First I informed those closest to me about my undercover operation. Highly confidential so I wasn't allowed to tell them much. I was posting as a desperate widow chased by debt and payments owed.
That was enough for a quick cover, not that I was actually going undercover so it didn't matter more than right now.
Apparently I was a better lier than they were detectives because they bought the lie flawlessly. Even Angela, who could tell things from miles off, seemed to believe me.

Next I took case files, usb's and everything else I would need to not leave my house in weeks. I wasn't sure how long this would take, but if everything thought I was deep undercover, I couldn't exactly show up to the station in uniform to get more equipment or evidence. I needed to get everything I could possibly need now, unless Grey could easily take it to me at our weekly meetup.
The worse part was not getting to see Juniper for probably weeks. I saw how undercover work destroyed Nyla's relationship with Donavon and lost her custody of her daughter for years.
I didn't want that.
I wouldn't have that.
But I couldn't tell Tim that, he also thought I was going undercover. I wouldn't be able to tell him that I could easily see our daughter during this investigation. So I wouldn't be able to see her at all.

I packed all the equipment into my car and drove home. Ready for this to be my reality for possibly the next few months.

A/N sorry I couldn't get this chapter out faster, I just got back from a holiday but ran out of backlogged chapters to release so this one was a day late.

Also the holidays finish soon so I may not be able to write as much due to homework and revision for exams.
