“Liliana, where have you been?!” her mother requested forcefully.
“I was at the slave hold mother.” She said exasperated.
Her mother’s eyes widened while a smile tugged at her lips. “What business did you have there?” she asked trying to suppress her excitement.
“An enquiry mother, if you must know I intend to make a purchase at the auction.” She said as a matter of fact.
“Why the sudden change of heart my darling?”
“I thought it was time, don’t you mother?” she turned and went to her courtyard where she lay on the ground and stared up to the moon. She always felt calm under it and felt an unconscious pull towards it. It was said that the first of her line were strongest fighting under the moon and had powers that had been forgotten. They were honoured above all; however, their kind hadn’t been seen in over a hundred years. Datura Innoxa they were called, the moons poison. It was their title to remind everyone of how dangerous they truly were. That was why to this day the assent ion battle was fought when the moon was at its highest. She would be fighting in it soon, during the winter solstice. She would fight her mother until second blood to prove she was strong enough to ascend the throne. They waited until the current queen’s daughter was eighteen and then she would be put to the challenge but if she failed all the other eligible females would fight each other and the winner would fight the queen and the ruling house would change. Her house had not lost a challenge in their history and she had no doubt she would be able to win but didn’t know if she wanted to rule her people with their harsh and mostly unfair customs. She wanted to rule fairly and equally. She wanted a society where the males and females were equal and free. Not scorned at birth and disowned. There were many others who thought like her, wanting love and the ability to have a real family. She knew she could try this when she was queen but didn’t know how the rest of her people would react towards her ideas. She had already begun to make a large and fearsome group of allies. Consisting of; Kere, most of her servants, some merchants and other amazons. Her best allies at the moment were the Rana’she an elite group of assassins, originating when the first female ascended to the throne. Sworn to celibacy they have removed their right breast so it does not interfere with their archery, for which they are renound. They are fierce and ruthless and always honour their word. Lilia had befriended their leader Sina’she. Sina had needed help on one of her many missions and Lilia had been the only person brave enough to help her. Sina and her clan had then sworn loyalty to her. She knew she would have the support of the free and unbroken slaves but she couldn’t help thinking that by marrying this foreign prince she would have the final piece she needed to make the changes. She didn’t really want to marry him but if it meant that things could finally change. She would do it.
