The next two weeks were a blur of action. Lilia practised with Kere almost every day, sparing until neither could take anymore, Learning new tricks and moves that may help her with the challenge. She learnt how to take any situation that may give her fault and turn it to give her the upper hand. She spent many hours testing new weapons and fighting forms to see which would suit her best, in between she met with the elite Rana’she to discuss how the changes will take place if she was named queen and sent word to her other allies on how to prepare in that event.
She tried to visit Kael as frequently as she could and had begun to savour their fleeting time together. She felt safe when she was with him, something she had never felt before. She paid the keepers to allow her to take Kael out so he could see the bustling city instead of being stuck in his cold room all alone. She had loved the way his face brightly lit up in wonder the first time she had given him her favourite treat, sweet honeycomb, and had asked for even more. He had marvelled over the dancers at the square watching how their bodies mimicked the beat of the drums and how the scarves they danced with in their hands twirled over their heads and glided around their glistening bodies as they spun adding bright colours to their dance. She remembered on another day she had taken Kael up to the rooftops jumping from one to the next watching everyone busy with their daily chores. How they had laughed when she accidentally fell into a fountain when she lost her footing and he had helped her up and had gallantly offered her his cape. She now also proudly wore a long thin braid in her hair that had gold beads strung on the tip with a single eagle’s feather, which Kael had meticulously platted into her hair saying that she would always have him near. Then one fine day she had taken him to the stables to show him her mount, a fine black stallion. He had been named Fire after his burning spirit. Kael had been very gentle and slow around Fire, stroking his neck and whispering softly to him. It seemed as thought it was where he was meant to be, together they had gone out the palace gates and Lilia had taught him how to ride only to find he could ride well himself. She then got Kael a strong dapple-grey steed of his own and they raced through the forest. Breaking left and right, dancing powerfully through the trees. Eventually they came to a stop at a secluded pond where they let the horses loose to drink, laughing they had both then walked across the crinkling summer grass to the water’s edge where they lay down letting the water wash over their toes. The air had hushed and even the insects were quiet as each stared into the others eyes seeing more than they had dreamed, Lilia had held her breath as Kael had slowly moved his hand forward to gently cup her cheek, he had slowly inched his head forward never breaking contact with her eyes while softly stroking her side. His lips had brushed across hers like a feather drifting on the wind. He kissed her again just as light as the first but lingering ever so more as Lilia had closed her eyes and had shyly kissed him too. He then pulled away resting back on the ground on his arm after wrapping his free one around Lilia’s shoulder and she had rested her head on his chest intertwining her hand with his. They then had lapsed into silence and just basked in the waning sun enjoying their precious moment alone together. During all their time together Lilia tried to make sure she only took Kael near people who she knew would not spy for the queen and report their companionship, however their time together always had to come to an end and Lilia would regrettably have had to go back to her palace and resume her facade as a heartless warrior princess. Her mother had tirelessly been planning how she could attack the foreign men that were now known as the Arcadians. She was being as ruthless as possible but little did she know that more than half of her war parties were all sympathetic to Lilia’s cause. She found it quite comical how mother and daughter were now secretly plotting against each other; she just didn’t want to guess who would win...
