Amahle's POV

I listen to the sound of the birds chirping outside as I wait for the uncensored, hideous sound of the alarm to ring."It's only 05:29am,just 1 more minute until you have to wake Hlelo up",my brain reminds me as I wash away from the thoughts of what seems to have been occupying my mind for the past 24 hours, the mysterious gun.

As soon as the clock hits thirty,I get up from the bed, heading to the bathroom.I then freshen up and wake Hlelo up,telling her to go and shower.I then head out to Phindile's room and wake her up from what she usually calls her prestigious beauty sleep, her words not mine.I go to the kitchen and start making isidudu somealie-mealie which is basically porridge made from maize.Once that is up and boiling ,I take out the ironing board and start ironing Hlelo's uniform which consists of her school tunic, shirt and blazer. She has seemingly polished her school shoes yesterday already, which is quite more to the odd side as I usually have to beg her to do them.Who knows ,maybe the excitement of this day got the best of her!

At 08:42am we are all looking beautiful and smart in our clothes. One would mistake us for the royal family of England, while at those thoughts,RIP Queen Elizabeth.I drive to Hlelo's school and park in a vacant area ,much to another car's dismay,as it was about to park there too... too bad! We get out of the car and the first person I spot from the profuse number of people is Lazola who is conversing with a smartly dressed man that's standing beside a woman whom I assume to be his wife.Surprisingly the 'wife' is standing side by side with Akhangele and by the looks of things, they are having a knowledgeable conversation hence the seriousness in their faces. If these are her parents then I swear I have seen them from somewhere. My question is...what is Lazola doing here?

Phindi:(whispering)Am I tweaking or what? Isn't this the mayor and his wife who is a famous journalist? That's also his brother , Mthi.
I look at her, that's Lazola not the Mthi she is referring to.
Me:(whispering back)Maybe...that's probably the reason why they looked oddly familiar when I looked at them.
Phindi:(whispering)Eyyy kanti uHlelo uchilla nomntwana wee big dogs.
Hlelo side eyes us and we laugh and head inside with Lazola and the Thubeni family following right behind us.We get to the hall and find it already packed.Hlelo and Akhangele walk to their grade seats leaving us all standing awkwardly with our eyes eyeing some places to sit.
A brunette-head woman with really pale skin and blue eyes ,must have noticed our struggle as she makes her way to us with one of those fake smiles plastered on her face. Not to sound racist but do you know those White-people ,2 second smiles that we usually receive when we pass their kind?...yeah that's the smile I'm talking about.Good thing I've mastered the art of it because I also plaster my own as she approaches us.

Woman:Hello there.I assume you are the Jabavu and Thubeni family,am I correct?
We nod our heads
Woman:Well you all have reserved seats just at the front.Follow me
We then head to the front. We take our seats and Lazola is sitting right next to me.
Me:Fancy seeing you here,Lazola.
He chuckles and turns to look at me.
Him:Ndlovukazi.I have come here to witness my niece collect all these prizes.
I chuckle not because he's funny but because of how bold and confident he said such.
Me:You're related to Akhangele?
Him:Yes.Her father is my brother.
Me:Ohhh,understandable then.

The ceremony begins and ends after 2 long hours.
As I'm about to walk out to my daughter, the mayor pulls me aside taking me by surprise.Without further ado I say...
Me:Don't touch me
I say with a tint of annoyance in my voice.Who does he think he is to just grab me like that?
Mayor:I apologize for that Miss Jabavu
Me:Mhmm you should be apologetic.
Mayor:Moving forward, I reckon that you have gotten the gun?
Me:Gun?
Mayor:Yes,the one my son dropped off at your bakery
Me:You don't know me wena.
Mayor:Damn well I don't but my son does.He is about to work with you
Me:Work for me? Uthini nalapha kum?
Mayor:I'm saying that my so...
Me:(interrupting)Mamela apha Mr Thubeni.I don't know where you think you know me from but I'm not whoever you think I am.I'm not even from here but you are already organizing people to drop off guns at my place? If you know what is good for you ,you will leave me alone right now.I don't know your son nor do I know you but you seem to know a lot about me and I do not like that. Now go on to your wife and stop going around grabbing parents who want to congratulate their daughters. While at that tell your son to bring back the two cupcakes he took,it was not his right to.Nxx can't a woman get some peace of mind around here?
