Amahle's POV
It's been a month and a few days since we have lived here and I must say that I've been okay shame. I got Hlelo a school and it cost R5k a month so I decided to just settle the whole years fees which was R60k in total.Today is her first day at school, doing grade 9.
Me:Hlelolenkosi shesha girl or you'll be late.
Hlelo:I'm coming mama.

She responds as I pack the last bit of her lunch in her lunchbox.I didn't even hire a transport for her because ayikho imali so I'll just drive her to and from school. Some schools rejected her because she didn't have the right documents like a birth certificate but the majority accepted her.So she had to choose the one she thought was suitable for her.
We get to her school and I swallow hard when I see only black students. No offense but I do not like black schools because firstly the kids converse in their own mother tongues as they see no need to speak English. Secondly black students are bullies and instead of building each other up they tear each other down. What's crazy is that they do it in a way that they seem like they are joking around while they are clearly sending an underlying message.

We walk in further into the school and I don't even see one white person.Sigh.A girl with albinism, comes to us out of nowhere as we were walking towards a group of girls.
Girl:Molweni kunjani?
Me:Siyaphila wena?
Girl:Ndiyaphila.
Me:Ndicela iidirections to her classroom.Class 9R
Girl:Ndilandeleni.
We follow behind her and she leads us to a classroom. It's actually not in a bad condition as I had anticipated.
Me:Thank you so much
Girl:My pleasure.
She then turns to Hlelo.
Girl:(smiling)I'm Akhangele Thubeni by the way.Wena ungubani?
Hlelolenkosi:I'm Hlelolenkosi Jabavu.
I look at Hlelo shocked but quickly compose myself. This girl surprises me,why would she say Jabavu instead of Zulu?

Akhangele:Nice name for a beautiful girl.Word of advice, please stay away from those girls you guys were about to go to.They mean trouble and you seem like a good person so don't let them corrupt you.I'm the grade 9 head student and that's also part of the reason why they don't like me.If you stick by me,we might be best of friends and protect each other from these people.I only have 2 friends who are of the opposite gender, they are genuine and I could introduce them to you if you like.I have introduced myself to many students who were once new but they all somehow ended up being in that friend group claiming that they can't have a friend who has albinism, what will people say? Their logic is stupid right?
Hlelo nods in response.

Akhangele:Exactly, now imagine how they do academically with that kind of logic and reasoning? A shame. Now look at these badges
She says as she points to her blazer.Mhmm she has like 6 badges on her blazer 3 being for academics.I can already see her and Hlelo side by side, benyisa abantu kwii academics. But then again if Hlelo doesn't like her then I will accept it because I can't choose who she becomes friends with,I had my own chance while I was also her age.
Me:Alright uhm...please excuse us for a bit.
Akhangele:Of course.
She walks out with her head held high.Ndicela andiphe I confidence yakhe because wow.Hlelo has been so quiet, I turn to her.
Me:So?? What do you think?
Hlelo:I'm fine I guess.
I'm not satisfied with her response but I take it.
Me:So what do you think about Akhangele?
Hlelo:Yhuu she is so LOUD!
We both giggle at that.
Me:Girl get out of here, you can't be speaking...
I say in an American accent. She bursts out laughing.
Hlelo:Nah yekela lezi zinto, they ain't for you woman.

I just roll my eyes. When we finally settle down she says...
Hlelo:But I like her though...she seems genuine.Hopefully there are more people like her here.I hope these teachers are not your typical anizwa nina teachers like the ones I had when I was still in KwaZulu Natal when my parents were still alive.Yhu abaya bavele bakushayele into ongayazi vele.Either than that I'll be fine and I'll make sure I still keep my grades up.I can't really complain, life will get better once everything has blown over.I love you mama and please know that I appreciate you.
I smile at her and hug her.
