The Hunt (pt.5) - OT8 and Enha

Hyunjin dug his heels into the ground, nearly toppling over as people brushed past him to get in front. Jeongin got yanked back and the younger looked at Hyunjin with a pleading look in his eyes, "Please. Hyune..."

"Go on, Jeongin. I will head back to bring Seungmin along."

"No, Hyunjin! You can't do this to-"

"Go on! I will meet you. With Seungmin." Hyunjin turned to see Chan sprinting up to them with question marks in his eyes. Probably wondering why they weren't running. 

In a split moment, Hyunjin made a decision. He took Jeongin's hand and placed it in Chan's as the oldest ran past them. Jeongin yelped as Chan dragged him along, the leader nodding to Hyunjin with a look of trust in his eyes.

Chan gripped Jeongin's hand tightly, "Come on, Innie."

Jeongin protested, "Do you know why he went back?!"

Chan shook his head, "No. But Hyunjin is rational, even if he doesn't act like it sometimes."

Jeongin took a deep cut from the path, into the woods and the two hid as elves ran past. Jeongin took a shaky breath, "You should trust me. I and Seungmin are the closest to Hyunjin, in many ways. And I can tell you that Hyunjin was not rational when he turned back. He went back for Seungmin."

"And what's the problem? He's Hyunjin's lover as well. Of course he would-"

Jeongin snapped, "Seungmin got shot in the chest, Chan. There's NO SHOT HE'S ALIVE, AND YOU JUST USHERED HYUNJIN TO HIS OWN DEATH!"

Chan froze. He in fact, hadn't known why Hyunjin ran back. All he had seen in Hyunjin's eyes was resolution and he'd caved. He'd assumed Hyunjin was in the right mindset. And now, Hyunjin would be yet another soul to be lost because of his actions.

"Wh-What?"

Jeongin burst into tears, knees giving out from underneath himself. His palms slammed on the ground, and he sobbed openly. "WHY ME?"

Chan crouched next to the younger and murmured, "I'm sorry, Innie..."

Jeongin pushed himself to stand and he snapped, "You don't understand! I have lost EVERYONE I LOVED!" Then he froze. Because only now did it hit him. 

Chan choked out a croaked, "Really? Only you have lost everyone you loved? Then where are my lovers? HUH? Where is Felix and Changbin? You are the one suffering?! You are the one who will be responsible for the deaths of Sunoo and NI-KI, kids I don't even know but promised to protect? You think I have it fucking easy?!"

"Channie hyung, calm down." A deep voice filled the tense silence. Several pairs of footsteps were coming up from behind.
