The Hunt (pt.7) - OT8 and Enha

Jeongin choked in disbelief. Felix's eyes went out like a light as behind him, the sickening noise of a knife withdrawing from a wound could be heard.

Jeongin's eyes followed Felix's body as it fell roughly. Jeongin was sure that if the wound didn't kill Felix, his snapped neck would've made sure of his demise.

A relatively deep voice woke him from his stunned shock, "Hey. Get going. The hoard is coming and they're fast."

"You- but Chan...what? How..."

The boy was one from Heeseung's group but Jeongin didn't recognise him from the introduction circle. Right, it was the one that got dragged, according to Chan. Mickey, was it?

Mickey said, "I couldn't blow my cover. Sorry about your leader." The boy turned his back to Jeongin and disappeared into the shadows, leaves crunching beneath his boots.

So Jeongin, against his own instincts, ran in the opposite direction. And prayed Hyunjin was smart about his discreetness.

Jeongin's fingers trailed over the three pieces of necklaces. He aligned the three necklaces, the magnetism attracting them to form the full heart. A tear landed on the grass beside the attached necklaces.

Jeongin whispered, "I know our promise. To go on. But I don't think I can. I belong here."

He picked up Seungmin first and found a large tree and laid the older in a peaceful sitting position there, and did the same with Hyunjin, allowing Seungmin's head to rest on Hyunjin's shoulder. He interlocked their fingers and between them, laid the 3 interlocking necklaces. He stared at the heart, a stream of tears trekking down his face.

"Goodbye. I'll find you guys again. I—I swear...I swear." The last words were a hushed promise that carried throughout the forest.

He walked a few steps, barely out of the clearing...

He'd forgotten the seal surrounding the 3 heart pieces, that they'd sustain the wearer till they parted. Cause of death? Ultimate heartbreak. So his promise was granted unexpectedly. 

He didn't even have time to wish for someone to find him and lay him beside his lovers.
