Hyunjin yelped but was fast to nock his bow and take aim. The elf stared straight into his eyes and didn't even flinch as the bowstring twanged. There was the sickening sound of the arrow burying itself into the chest of the elf and her body fell limply to the ground, as though she'd already been dead before he'd even released the arrow.

One of Heeseung's group cried out, "Sunoo!"

Heeseung fell to his knees and said, "Jake, the medical supplies. On your back. Come on! Stop standing there like a mannequin!"

The boy Heeseung addressed fell to his knees and ruffled through his back. He procured a med kit and slipped on gloves.

The boy called Sunoo was squinting his eyes closed and a tear slipped out. It rolled down his cheek as the more serious guy wiped it away silently. Han slipped his hand out of Minho's grip and the older let him go.

He walked over to Sunoo, Heeseung's group stiffly making way for him, as though they didn't fully trust his intentions.

Han dropped to a crouch beside the fallen Sunoo and whispered, "It's going to be alright, Sunoo. We're here."

The more serious guy spoke up, "Sunoo. It's NI-KI. You're going to be okay."

Then, Seungmin snapped, "GET UP! RUN, RUN!" He sprinted forward, shielding Heeseung's group and the rest, knife held at the ready.

Chan spluttered, "Wha- Seungmin!"

Jeongin and Hyunjin ran forward to Seungmin's side as 5 elves burst through the foliage, teeth bared and knives brandished.

Minho ran forward and grabbed Han's hand, hauling him backwards and shielding him with his own body. Then, Chan yelled, "Hey! Where's Felix and Changbin?"

Jake had scrambled away from Sunoo, stunned by the elves' appearance.

Hyunjin nocked his bow and took aim for the elf at the centre, Seungmin and Jeongin protecting him.

What they didn't expect was for the elf to call upon the wind and swept them to their feet. Jeongin, Seungmin, and Hyunjin yelped, landing on their backs. They barely made it to their feet and shouted, "RUN! NOW!"

Sunoo cried out as he tried to move but the stab wound was making it difficult to do so. Chan watched most of Heeseung's group flee, holding hands, but noticed the serious guy still hovering over Sunoo.

"NI-KI, was it? We have to go, kid," Chan watched the elves prowl forward and added, "like right now!"

Hyunjin, Seungmin, and Jeongin brushed past Chan, the youngest making eye contact with him. There was not a single spark of hope in that gaze.

Chan muttered, "Fuck." He reached forward to grab NI-KI and Sunoo but a blast of wind sent him careening backward. He was too far away. So all he could do was watch as the elves snatched NI-KI up and left Sunoo crying help.

One elf turned to watch Chan and jerked forward, as if to chase him. Chan didn't waste a second to follow his friends.

He tripped.

Not physically, no.

He was guilt-tripped.

Because on their first meeting, he, as presumably the oldest, had failed to protect those he'd agreed to taking under his wing.

And he'd never forget Sunoo's last cry and NI-KI's hopeless gaze as he got dragged away from Sunoo.
