Cal laughs with Fox and Harper on the latters bed, talking about all the cool clothes they get here. "The stuff you get to choose from is so much better than ours." Fox says.
Cal looks down at her outfit, light brown sweatpants matched with a cropped sweatshirt and a white bra with tennis shoes. She looks back up at the girls. "You'd look better in it if it counts."
"It doesn't help that Jasper and Monty said you were one of our leaders either." Harper says.
"They did?"
Both girls nod. "Because you are."
Cal chuckles a little and shakes her head. "No, I'm not. I'm a fighter, not a leader. Clarke and Bellamy and Raven and Finn are the leaders, not me. I'm the warrior, the fighter, like Jasper and Miller. I'm not leading material."
"Everyone here could be leading material if they tried." Fox says.
"Not me. I'm no leader."
"Miller!" A boy shouts, interrupting everyone's talking in their room. Cal looks up from her laying position and stares at the boy walking in followed by Maya. Cal jumps up racing to her best friend and barrels into him.
"You asshole!" Cal yells, punching him in the shoulder after they pull away. "You scared me."
"Do you care about me, Cooper?"
Cal sticks her tongue out at him. "You know I don't like you using my last name, my mother was a bitch."
"You never told me that."
"Why do you think I know how to fight? I did it every day. Learned how to hide stuff after mom stole my rations."
"That's why you're so skinny."
"So are you! We all are. We rationed from the day we were born."
Miller nods his head. "I'm glad you're okay." Clarke says from her bunk.
"Yeah. Only took, what, three surgeries?" Miller looks to Maya in confirmation, and she nods. "I hear your fitting right in." He says to both Clarke and Cal.
"I was worried about you." Cal says. "Mainly Harper, but still you."
Miller rolls his eyes at her as Clarke glares at Maya and she turns to Miller. "Twice a day, don't forget." She hands over a pill bottle and he takes it. "He'll be okay in a few days. Here." Maya gives him a bag and he sets it down on the bunk below Clarke.
Cal sits down on his bunk and lays on it. "Did you see the Ark come down?" Cal asks as Jasper and Maya walk away. "Your dad could be alive, your boyfriend."
"Your mom could be alive."
Cal rolls her eyes, but not at him, just at the mention of Aurora. "All my family was down on the ground the day Raven came down. No one up there is my family, just you guys'."
"If we get out of here, what will you do?"
"I'll go rough it. Maybe go live with Lincoln for a while, pose as a Grounder."
Alarms blare before Miller could respond and Cal shoots up from her laying position in Miller's bed and stands up, walking over to Clarke and Maya. "Hey, what's going on?" Clarke asks the girl.
"That signal means a surface patrol is back, and someone needs medical attention." She looks back to the hundred. "I have to go to quarantine." She races off and Clarke and Cal were about to follow but get stopped by Jasper.
"Hey, Cal, Clarke, what are you doing?"
"Maybe they found survivors." Clarke says. "If our people are hurt, we have a right to know." Jasper stops them both again.
