The next morning, Teddy tried to shake the feeling of dread that had settled over him, but everywhere he went, he saw shadows flickering at the edges of his vision. They seemed to move, shifting and twisting whenever he looked away. People in the streets gave him odd looks, whispering as he passed, but he couldn't hear their words-only the whispers that followed him.

A part of him wondered if Marlon had cursed him, if his uncle's spirit was haunting him, pulling him toward something dark and unforgivable. He could almost hear Marlon's voice, warning him like he always had, telling him to be better, to rise above the violence of the 4th District.

But that wasn't what the voice was saying now. It was angry, accusing, demanding that Teddy pay for what he'd done.

The shadows grew darker, more distinct, and Teddy began to see faces in them. B-Dawg, Slim, Double-C-they stared at him with hollow eyes, their faces twisted with rage. Every time he closed his eyes, they were there, waiting, watching.
