That night, the voices were relentless. They circled him, pressing in, louder and angrier than before. Teddy tossed and turned in his bed, but there was no escaping them.
"You think you can keep secrets? You think you're free?"
His heart raced, and he sat up, sweat beading on his forehead. He felt the room pulse around him, the shadows stretching and bending. And in the corner, where the darkness was thickest, he saw it-a shape, human, familiar, twisted in rage. It was Uncle Marlon.
Teddy froze, the air catching in his lungs as Marlon's figure loomed closer, his face pale and accusing. His lips moved, but his voice was soft and mournful, the pain in his eyes cutting through Teddy like a knife.
"I taught you better than this, Tavon. I warned you about revenge."
Teddy choked back a sob, reaching out, but his hand grasped empty air. The figure faded, slipping back into the shadows, but Marlon's final words lingered in the air.
"I was trying to protect you, Tavon. But now... you're just like them."
Teddy fell back on his bed, his heart pounding. The voice returned, softer this time, almost tender. "It's time to make things right."
He knew then what he had to do. He couldn't hide from Marlon, from the voices, or from the truth. He had to face the families. And maybe, just maybe, that would quiet the whispers that had taken over his life.
