After a sleepless night, I knew I couldn’t keep going like this. Rio’s words haunted me, filling every quiet moment with doubt. If Adler was hiding something from me, I needed to know. I wasn’t going to let Rio’s manipulation destroy my trust in the people around me, but I couldn’t ignore the unsettling feeling that Adler might be keeping secrets.
That morning, I found myself wandering across campus, eventually ending up near the studio where Adler practiced. I knew he would be here. Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside, watching as he moved gracefully, each step a testament to his dedication. For a moment, I forgot everything, mesmerized by his rhythm. But then the doubts crept back, and I knew I had to confront him.
When he finally noticed me, he stopped, wiping his brow. "Aniya," he said, surprised but warm. "Didn’t expect to see you here this early."
I took a steadying breath. "Adler, we need to talk."
His face tightened slightly, but he nodded, motioning toward the bench by the mirrors. We sat down, and I could feel the tension between us, like an invisible wall.
I hesitated, not wanting to believe Rio’s words, but I had to ask. "Yesterday… Rio said some things about you. He made it sound like you’re hiding something. I need to know if there’s any truth to it."
Adler’s jaw clenched, and for a moment, I thought he might shut down. But he sighed, looking at me with a vulnerability I hadn’t seen before. "Aniya, there are things I’ve kept private, yes. But not because I wanted to hide them from you. Some things are just… complicated."
"Complicated how?" I pressed, my voice softer. "Adler, I just want to understand."
He looked down at his hands, and when he spoke, his voice was almost a whisper. "You know about my family, how they wanted me to follow a different path. What I didn’t tell you is that I still struggle with it every day. My relationship with them is… strained. They don’t accept what I’m doing with my life, and I’m constantly trying to prove myself to people who may never be proud of me."
My heart clenched. I reached out, taking his hand in mine. "Adler, I had no idea. Why didn’t you tell me?"
"I didn’t want you to think I was weak or doubting myself," he said, his voice breaking slightly. "Rio knows about it because he’s used it against me in the past, throwing it in my face whenever he wants to remind me of my failures."
I squeezed his hand, feeling a wave of relief and empathy wash over me. "Adler, everyone has struggles. That doesn’t make you weak. If anything, it makes me admire you more."
He gave me a grateful look, and for a moment, the tension between us dissolved. But then his expression grew serious again. "Aniya, Rio isn’t going to stop. He’s not just obsessed with you—he’s fixated on the idea that I don’t deserve anything good in my life."
I nodded, feeling the weight of his words. "Then we need to stop him, together."
He looked at me, a glint of determination in his eyes. "I won’t let him hurt you, Aniya. Whatever he has planned, we’ll face it together."
Just then, Julian entered the studio, his face pale. "Guys… we have a problem."
We both turned to him, worry growing.
"What is it?" Adler asked, his tone tense.
"Rio’s taken it to the next level. He’s talking to people around campus, spreading rumors, trying to make it sound like you’re the one who’s been harassing him, Adler."
My stomach dropped. This was worse than I’d imagined. If Rio convinced people that Adler was the threat, everything we’d worked for would be turned against us.
Adler clenched his fists, frustration clear on his face. "He’s trying to isolate me, turn everyone against me."
"That’s not all," Julian added. "Sofia’s already posted something about it on her blog. She’s painting you as a villain, Adler."
I felt a surge of anger. "We can’t let him get away with this. He’s manipulating everyone, turning this whole situation into something twisted."
Julian nodded. "We’ll find a way to fight back. But we need to be smart. Confronting Rio directly will only make things worse."
As the three of us stood there, plotting our next move, I realized how deeply Rio’s obsession had spiraled out of control. This wasn’t just about me or Adler—this was a game he was playing, a way to feed his own ego and feel powerful. And I wasn’t going to let him win.
Later that day, I ran into Lily, who pulled me aside, worry etched on her face. "Aniya, I saw the latest post on Sofia’s blog. It’s getting out of hand."
"I know," I said, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on me. "Rio’s trying to ruin Adler’s reputation. He wants everyone to see Adler as a threat."
Lily shook her head, anger flashing in her eyes. "That’s disgusting. We have to find a way to expose Rio for what he really is."
Her determination gave me strength, and we made a plan to dig deeper into Rio’s past. If we could find proof of his manipulations, we might be able to show everyone the truth. I knew this wasn’t going to be easy, but I also knew we couldn’t back down.
That evening, as I walked back to my dorm, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Rio was watching, lurking somewhere in the shadows. But instead of fear, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. He might have created this chaos, but I was going to end it.
Just as I reached my door, my phone buzzed with a new message. My heart pounded as I read it:
"You can’t hide behind Adler forever. The truth will come out, and when it does, you’ll see who’s really on your side. - R."
I stared at the screen, feeling a chill run down my spine. His words felt like a threat, a promise that this was far from over.
Taking a deep breath, I reminded myself of the people standing beside me. Adler, Julian, Lily—they weren’t going anywhere. We were in this together, and we were going to stop Rio, no matter what it took.
But as I prepared for the days ahead, I couldn’t shake the fear that Rio might be right. What if the truth did come out? And what if, when it did, I was left questioning everything I thought I knew?
