I look around to see pictures of all of us. One that catches my eye is a picture of us the day we left for Honeymoon. I am standing in the middle between Linix and Ellex. All three of us are smiling and showing our yellow moon signs indicating we joined. I look away as Gavin starts talking to me.
"So...how is it going?"
"Its...been alright..."
"Is Ellex still keeping you in line about her name?"
I find myself rubbing my head as if to rub a sore spot.
"As of this morning...yea..."
Gavin bursts into laughter.
"You'll never learn will ya boy? Eh...Ellex always was a bit stubborn. Not like her brother."
I look away from him and sigh. Then I hear the question id hope he'd never ask me.
"Speaking of Linix...how is he?"
I feel my heart drop. How can I tell him...
"Jade? Is something wrong?"
"Gavin...he...he is..."
He lets out a sigh before I meet his gaze.
"So...what the rumors say is true...Lin...really is gone?"
I nod at him not knowing what to say. Linix was his favorite. Always eager and ready to help out and always watching out for Ellex and I...this must be overwhelming to him.
"Well...I hoped that it wasn't true...but that's war for ya. Say if that's true then...you beat Zero in a fight?"
"Y-Yea...you could say that."
I wasn't expecting him to change the subject so quickly.
"Looks like some of my old tricks helped ya out after all eh?"
I smile at him.
"Yea...especially the flat blade trick."
"I remember now...you took a whole year to learn that from. Lin learned it in a month."
Both of us look down.
"How'd it happen? Do you know?"
I tense up and he notices me.
"It's alright if you don't Jade..."
"He was protecting me when...he got stabbed. He bleed out in minutes."
"I see..."
I stand up and grab my head. I feel overwhelmed with emotions.
"I tried to save him! I did all I could I swear!" I start screaming into my hands as tears sting my eyes. I feel a hand on my shoulder and I lool up. Gavin pulls me to him and pats my head.
"I know ya did kid...I know.."
Gavin really was one of the first people to ever understand me. I wipe the tears from my eyes and decide to ask him if he knows where Echo or Sirus could be.
"Ya mean the bat girl down the road who is always tinkering with some sort of gadget she invented? She's down by the old dinner across the road usually."
"And what of Sirus?"
He rubs his chin as if trying to remember.
"I know he leads some sort of mercenary group called the howling wind? Where he is I couldn't tell ya."
I sigh with disappointment.
"Well at least I know where one of them are."
I say smiling at him. He smiles back in his old crooked grin. I look to see that it's dark outside.
"Hey Gavin...do you..."
"I told you when you left here Jade...you will always have a home here at Candridge." He says as if reading my thoughts.
"Thanks...Gav..."
I walk into my old room and find it just as I left it. I find my old, worn out jurnal. I open it and find a note that Ellex had wrote to Lin and I.
I hate to be the one to inform you all this...but...if I like a guy it does not mean that I will go dumb. You guy's don't have to worry...I'll always be smarter then you two combined.
Sincerely,
Ellex
I chuckle as I'm reading it...she really did look up to us. It wasn't until now that I knew who she was talking about.
