ANANYA

I smiled to myself as I walked through the halls, feeling a sense of freedom and lightness. No guards stopped me when I came to work, and that added to my satisfaction today.

As I entered my cabin, my eyes were immediately drawn to the lab coat hanging on the rack. I couldn't help but smile and caress it, feeling a sense of familiarity and comfort.

I changed into my nursing uniform and slipped on the lab coat, feeling more empowered and confident as I did so.

"Welcome back, Dr. Ananya," I whispered to myself, feeling ready for whatever the day would bring.

A soft knock sounded at my door, and I quickly called out, "Come in."

The director's assistant entered my cabin with a friendly smile on her face. "Good morning, Dr. Ananya," she greeted me.

"Good morning," I replied with a smile, gesturing for her to take a seat. "What brings you by today?"

"Just so you know," she began, flipping through the chart she had handed me, "Most of your assigned patients were shifted to other doctors during your absence."

I handed the list back to her after checking all the names and who they were assigned to. "I'm not surprised, though. It's probably for the best."

She nodded. "Ms. Ranawat asked me to assign them back to you," she added.

"That will be hectic. Most of my patients were shifted to Dr. Samira," I said, folding my arms.

She nodded. "It was hard to convince her to take the patients," she whispered, and I nodded, knowing Samira's attitude towards me. She doesn't like me at all.

Anyway, now that I am here, I will try to sort things out. I am actually surprised that she took the patients. I am thankful to her that she didn't let her feelings towards me affect the patients' care.

She left the room, and just then, my phone buzzed. An annoyed sigh escaped my lips when I saw it was Arhan calling. I didn't bother to pick it up.

The door swung open suddenly, and I took a step back as Arhan entered my cabin. He wore a smug expression and closed the door, locking it behind him.

"Why are you here, and why are you locking the door?" I demanded, raising my voice.

"I'm just here to see my wife," he replied, pausing for a moment before continuing, "Husband and wife need some privacy, you know, and we definitely need some." He stepped towards me, and I instinctively took a step back, unable to process his words.

My back hit the desk, and he placed his palms on either side of it, effectively trapping me. He lowered his head, his eyes fixed on mine.

I looked at him, my brows knitted together, and his gaze dropped from my eyes to my lips. It didn't take me a second to realize what he was trying to do.
