Nothing ever seemed to please Prince Shadow.

The black striped prince wore the same pissed off expression on his face every day. (Who could blame him? He had to deal with these..."picky people")

The prince spent all day brooding upon problems and not knowing what to do to solve them, although watching his "Subjects" struggle and beg for mercy did seem to be enjoyable.

He was tired of everyone coming to him about the same problems everyday

"We need more money to provide for our families" "How are we going to survive in conditions like this?"

Questions after questions.

And what did he do? Absolutely nothing. Shadow sat upon the window frame reading his favorite book series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians and next to him was a stack of Harry Potter books.

He knew that his father would never approve of these books since it involved magic and queer coded characters but it didn't stop Shadow from enjoying his favorite book.

The rain tapped softly again the window pane and the warm golden yellow light from the lap illuminated the dark room. Comfortable. Just the way he liked it...His silence was interrupted by a sudden knock on the wooden door. The knock echoed through the empty room as Shadow looked up.

Who the hell was disturbing me at this time of night?

Shadow grumbled and sat his book down after placing the small bookmark through it and stood up grabbing his weighted blanket wrapping it around him his eyes were carrying the tiredness with him as he opened the door.

"Speak."

He said ghost blinking, as the lady who was assumed to be one of the maids working there meekly apologized, "Apologize your Highness for the sudden intrusion but I simply wanted to inform you on your fathers wishes..."

She paused before continuing, "He asked for your presence in the conference room" Her voice was soft, elegant and she was genuine about her apology for disturbing Shadow's sulking.

Shadow's eyes narrowed at the maid's words, his grip tightening on the weighted blanket wrapped around him. *Father wants to see me? Again?*

He let out an irritated sigh, the sound raspy in the quiet room. "Very well. Inform him I will be along shortly," Shadow replied curtly, dismissing the maid with a wave of his hand.

As the door clicked shut behind her, Shadow's gaze drifted back to the inviting warmth of the room, the golden lamplight casting long shadows across the floor. *I was so close to figuring out what happened to Annabeth...* He thought bitterly, glancing at the open book on the windowsill.

With a grunt of annoyance, Shadow shoved the blanket aside and straightened his rumpled attire. He ran a hand through his messy black hair, trying to smooth the unruly locks into some semblance of order.

As if I have any choice but to go. Shadow mused darkly as he strode from the room, his footsteps echoing in the empty hallway. The old man summons, I attend. It's the way of things around here.

His mood soured with each step towards the conference room, the weight of obligation heavy on his shoulders. Shadow hated these forced meetings, where his father would drone on about politics and power plays that meant nothing to the young prince. All Shadow cared about was getting back to his books and figuring out the mystery of Annabeth's disappearance. But those desires were a luxury he couldn't afford, not when the kingdom demanded his attention.

I swear, one day I'll find a way to escape all this nonsense. Shadow vowed silently as he pushed open the heavy wooden doors to the conference room. Until then, I'm just a prisoner in this gilded cage.
