“Where’s Lucian?” Pierce asked as I neared the trees. My eyes searched around for my father, who was nowhere in sight. That’s strange.

“I’ve no idea,” I replied. Derek leaned against a tree, busy staring at his hands. His father was missing as well. Don’t tell me they were busy negotiating with those rogues? What good was that going to do? They would keep attacking again and again until they reduced the number of our warriors. Perhaps that’s what my father and his beta wanted.

“Don’t act smart with me, pretty girl,” Pierce said, his eyes taking in my form from head to toe. I fought against the urge to squirm at his perusal, but that didn’t bother me so much as him calling me a little girl. Girl? Really? Did I look like a fucking girl to him? In other instances, the word wouldn’t even bother me, but the way he said it made all the difference. He said it like he thought I was someone born yesterday.

Fuck him.

“Then go search for him.” The days of him and his Council of fools taking advantage of me were long gone. Now, the plan involved seizing what I wanted, whether the people around me liked it or not. Pierce stepped forward. He was a couple of inches shorter than me, and his play at intimidating me almost made me laugh.

“Don’t talk to me like that,” he warned.

“Like what, Pierce?” I made sure to put as much disdain into his name as possible.

“I can take everything away from you.”

“Just a couple of days ago, I heard someone tell me that you’re all talk and nothing more. Is there any truth in those words?” I knew I was playing a very dangerous game, but I gave no cares. His reaction right now could tell me everything I wanted to know. Something flashed through his eyes. Was it fear? Anger? Surprise? He quickly screwed his features, revealing nothing.

“Who told you that?”

“Where’s my father?” Our time to talk was over. I needed answers.

“You can guess,” Pierce said, still looking at me like he wanted to take my clothes off. I ignored it, turning away from him.

“Derek, mind link Erin. If you don’t get her, send someone to bring her here. And you,” I faced the obnoxious man. “Where are the warriors?”

“Are you stupid?”

“Shut up,” I growled, pacing back and forth.

“You’re not doing that, are you?” I kept pacing, ignoring him altogether. What an imbecile. Peirce grabbed me by the elbow, yanking my body towards his so that I was facing him. I dipped my head so that I could look at him.

“Hands off Pierce,” Lucian snarled next to us. When did he get here? I looked around us, glad that no one was in sight. Good, the possessive way he was acting towards me lately would raise questions. Trust me, I didn’t plan on having my pack members finding out that my mate didn’t want me.

“We’re just talking,” Pierce grumbled, but he stepped back.

“Whether you like it or not, we’re doing it,” I said, glaring at the two of them.

“What are you doing?” I didn’t answer Lucian because I knew he was going to try to stop me. Well, that wasn’t happening, and that’s why my sister needed to be here. We had our differences, yes, but I recognised talent. Erin knew how to plan things. If she agreed to be on our side, then our chances of winning this were high. The rogues were causing our pack problems. It had to end.

“Have you lost your mind?”

“Don’t raise your voice at me,” I said. He had no right to talk to me like that, and he knew it. Instead of him replying, he grabbed my hand and dragged me into the shed of the trees. I let him.
