I opened the door, letting her in, my eyes studying the surroundings to see if someone was lurking in the shadows, spying. Nothing seemed amiss, so I closed the door behind me, following her to the living room. Sybil walked in front of me like she owned the place, but I didn’t miss the slight tension in her shoulders or the worry coming off her in waves.
She didn’t sit down, though. Sybil walked to the window, staring outside. For a while, I just watched her. It was clear that something was bothering her, and I had no idea what it was. Could it be what she discussed with Lorraine? As much as I wanted to know, I didn’t want to push her.
“Is there a way I can talk to Lorraine?” Talk to Lorraine? Isn’t she the one who said that she hated her kind or something like that? Then why would she want to talk to her now?
“Why?” There was a reason, and the worry lines marring her face when she turned to me only made me so sure.
“I told you...” I heard up my hand to stop her from talking any further. Whatever she discussed with Lorraine felt like it affected me somehow. It was the kind of feeling that I couldn’t deny anymore. Something was going on, something big.
“Tell me what’s going on first,” I said.
“Don’t make this difficult as it already is. Tell me how I can contact her.”
“You can’t.” She frowned at my response.
“If you want to meet her, you’ve to go to her.”
“You’re joking.”
“I’m saying the truth,” I said.
“This is important.”
“Tell me what it is first, then I will consider helping you.”
“Do you possibly think I can’t find a way to contact her?”
“If you had, you wouldn’t be here, right?” The frown on her face deepened, her blue eyes taking on a darker hue as she glared at me.
“Are you going to help or not?” I shook my head, and she nodded, marching towards me with the intention to leave my house. Before she could pass, I hooked my hand around her waist, bringing her body flush with mine. A gasp slipped through her lips, clearly not anticipating my next move.
“Tell me what’s bothering you,” I said, grazing my knuckles on her cheek, watching as the color red bloomed on her cheeks.
“Take your hands off me,” she growled deep enough, the sound almost bringing me to my knees. Pulling in a deep breath, I tried to show some kind of bravado that I knew I didn’t have.
“You do know I’m not afraid of you, right?” I knew I was playing a dangerous game. I’ve seen alphas lose control and most of the time, the eventual results of their wrath aren’t pretty.
“I will ask you one last time. Are you going to help or not?”
“What are you hiding?”
“You kept the most important truth of my life from me for a century, and you can’t handle me keeping something from you for a few days?”
“Is that what this is about? You’re punishing me?”
“Tell me how I can contact her. The sooner you tell me, the better,” she said, ignoring what I had just accused her of.
“I wasn’t lying when I said you can’t get to her that easily. Lorraine doesn’t live like the rest of us do. If you want to see her, go to her house.”
“What age is she living in?”
“I’ve asked the same question for years, but...” I trailed off, my hand going down her back to rest on her waist like the other. Her eyes darkened even further, going completely black.
