“I’ve added Lucian to the list as well,” Harley said.

“What are you saying?” I said, turning to look at her. She had a naughty smile on her face, her blue eyes glinting with mischief.

“You will dance with him too,” she said, scribbling something in her little notebook. Harley was an omega, and my best friends. A lot of people in the pack didn’t like our relationship because of her status in the pack. Everyone thought it was strange that a high-ranking wolf would be friends with a nobody. She wasn’t a nobody, though. She was my best friend.

“Have you lost your mind?” That’s all I could come up with. Everyone in the pack knew that Lucian hated me. It was there in the way he looked at me. Like I was inferior or something like that. His mission in life was to bring me down, and if I wasn’t careful, he was going to succeed in doing just that.

“There are two ways to find your mate. Smell and touch. It could be the last one for you.”

“He’s not my mate. And let me tell you, I would rather bath in silver than let that man touch me.”

Yet you thought he was attractive yesterday.

A disgusting voice inside of me said. I ignored it. Acknowledging it would mean trouble. He was good looking, yes, everyone with eyes could see that.

“Well, he’s on the list now. Prepare yourself to dance with him.”

“This entire ordeal is ridiculous. I’ve met every man on that list before. If one of them was my mate, I was bound to notice.”

“You never know and don’t act like you don’t want to find him. Finding your mate will shut those motherfuckers up.”

“Harley,” came the sharp tone of my mother. She walked into the room like she owned the place. Well, I guess she owned the place. She was the luna after all.

“Sorry luna,” Harley mumbled, starting to scribble on her small book again. I stared at my mother, long thick white hair falling in waves around her face. Her blue eyes were on me, and there was no kind of affection in them. Like my father and everyone else, she, too, shared the frustration about my lack of a mate. I don’t know why they could just let me be. I could take care of the pack with no man beside me. She walked towards me, her dark blue dress sweeping the marble floors.

“Your dress is on its way, and please take this seriously.”

“But mom…”

“Don’t argue. If it doesn’t work this time, we will find another alternative.”

“What alternative?”

“Let’s pray for this work for now.” She turned to go, but I stopped her.

“Tell her to remove Lucian from the list,” I said. If Harley refused to listen to me, she was going to listen to the luna.

“Its good she added him,” and she left with that, leaving me with a mouth wide open. She hated Lucian too, and she was going to let him dance with me? Don’t tell me that’s how desperate she was.

“See? Your mother agrees too.”

“Please Harley, remove him.” I didn’t want that man touching me, yet the thought of having his hands on me sent a pleasing jolt through me. Unlike the other day, I wasn’t suffering from the aftermath of drinking, not in the slightest. I was sober as one could be. Which only meant that something was actually wrong with me. The thought of having Lucian touch me shouldn’t excite me in the slightest.

“I won’t,” she said, getting up from her chair. “I have some duties in the kitchen. See you later” She smiled at me, reluctantly, I did the same.
