THE HOST by Stephanie Meyer
I've been telling you about books that suck well here's one you should read. Yes, this book was written by the infamous write of the Twilight books but trust me when I say that this book is so much more than Twilight. There is way more emotion and romance. I had read it because I was bored out of my mind in the Target and I didn't even know that this book was written by Stephanie. I couldn't even believe my eyes when I noticed that she wrote it. It is just... seriously better then Twilight. It's about really really kind aliens who take over our world. It's a really great book and I would recommend it to anyone. It doesn't have heavy romance but if you want that, you only have to read my stories ;) I'm kidding. But if you're looking for some serious romance (That tantalizing thing that happens after heavy petting), I'd definitely recommend you read actual romance and not Y.A. Trust me, this book will frustrate you and make you wish it were romance not Y.A.
It's good. Read it or don't but it is good.
Summary:
So, Wanderer is part of an alien race and she is a celebrity of sorts among them because she's been to nine planets before Earth. The aliens take over planets and just attach themselves to whatever creatures are there already. Clearly, we are not the only ones floating around in space. But anyway, so she's inserted into this human Melanie. I won't tell you how she takes over the human, I'll let you read it for yourself. So the human manages to have a voice inside of Wanderer's head. I know its confusing, try to keep up. Since Wanderer (Or Wanda, as she is later named) took over Melanie's body, Melanie can no longer control any aspect of it. So she's only a voice inside Wanda's head. Now, this isn't normal among the alien race who are, by the way, named Souls. Wanda is freaked out and almost calls for the Seekers (They're kinda like the police, I guess) to kill the body she's in and put her in another one. But she doesn't because Melanie shows her memories of her human life, unintentionally. Wanda falls in love with the man that Melanie loved and she starts to care for all of the people in Melanie's life so instead of killing Melanie, she decides to find the rest of the humans that Melanie knew. She knows that they're alive and not taken over because Melanie was part of a group of survivors that included all the people from her life. She finds them but they treat her like a prisoner because they don't believe that Melanie is still in there with her and she's the alien they all despise because the Souls took over the planet. Let me just put in as a side note that the Souls are really peaceful and I personally wished them all the luck with taking over the planet. They were doing a great job with it and we all lived in peace and harmony, equals all of us with no sickness and no cause of death besides old age. It would be perfect but its only in the book. Our loss. So the group of humans finally trust her and they live happy for a long time until Wanda's self sacrificing ways... you know what? I won't ruin it for you. Let's just say that it really looks bleak for a minute but it has a happy ending. And the ending leaves the thought that there will be a sequel where the humans take back the planet in the more peaceful way that Wanda showed them (They had originally been killing the Souls while they were still in human bodies) but there hasn't been one yet nor is there definite word that there will be one at all. I remain ever hopeful though. This is a pretty decent book, unique in its genre. I can you that for sure.
In my grade book it gets a B+.
I rarely give out perfects. If I was that easy, I'd give it an A.
What else can I say? This book will make you laugh. It'll make you cry. And it'll be a good trip. Trust me.
Also, as a side note, they are making a movie of this book. Let me say, I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE MOVIES MADE OF BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hollywood always messes up these books, books that I had loved, books that made me cry with the characters. It's like a personal insult when they mess with the book. If they just stuck to the book, which I realize isn't possible, I'd hate Hollywood a lot less. As it is... they can go drown. I've always hated movies like these but for this book I'm making an exception. Let's hope I don't regret it.
