DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE by Laini Taylor

Genre: Y.A romance, Adventure, Fantasy, Awesomeness

I like the idea for this book because it's completely new. I have never seen anything with the same idea used for this one and it just blew me away when I read it. It is so unique and exotic and I think the author did a great job with bringing such an outlandish idea to life. This story actually deals with teeth, angels, and utterly creepy, spliced creatures with an infinite amount of secrets. It deals with different dimensions and the soulmate theory. This is such a great book that has all the important genres; romance, mystery (Who is the main character's real identity?), and a healthy dose of surrealism. I like her writing style because her story flows really well. Not once did I feel as if a scene was misplaced or that the writing was a bit choppy (Unfortunately, this seems to be the case for many Y.A novels). The story flowed and wrapped around me, making me read it in one sitting. The heroine is a perfect example of a insecure teenager (Surprisingly, most Y.A novels have confident and perfect protagonists when normal teenagers are nothing like that. It's a bit of a bad thing to do, considering who the book is intended for) and she was, of course, easy to relate to despite the fact that she was from a different dimension. We are all teenagers, it doesn't matter what or who you are, you will always have the teenage insecurity and the infinite problems that seem the most important thing in the world.

In my grade book, this gets an A.

Also, you mustn't forget: THIS BOOK IS DIPPED IN AWESOMENESS!

Summary:

I don't want to put too much here because I honestly want you to read this. I also don't want to give too much away. So, Karou (I love her name) is a weird teenager. She knows dozens of languages, her hair is naturally blue and she has eye tattoos that never fade on her palms. She's an artist, which I also like, who loves to draw these freaky spliced creatures. Every day when she goes to art school, people flock around to see her latest drawing of these mysterious creatures. When asked about these creatures, about her hair or tattoos, she will tell the truth. But she says it with such a smile that will make you disregard everything word she says as lies. They aren't of course. But the best lies are the ones that are true. With the right expression, they become unbelievable lies. But she doesn't know who she is. She has no idea what nationality is, who her parents are, everything about her origin is unknown. Karou truly is a woman of the world, never belonging to one place and certainly never staying in that one place for very long. Oh sure, she works for spliced creatures, doing very dangerous favors that one day caused her to be shot. But there's quite a lot Karou doesn't know. For one thing, everything she ever knew will be gone, only smoke remains. For another, she will find her soulmate in her enemy, a newly discovered enemy. Because a war is brewing. And Karou, whether she knows it or not and whether she wants to or not, is smack in the middle of it. Will she survive with the man she has already died for once? Or will she crash under the agony of losing all she had?

Like I said, I really loved this book. I recommend it left and right. It's a good teenage romance and I will continue to follow this series.

P.S: I love her soulmate. I want one like him :/

I hope I piqued your interest. I know this didn't make much sense but I want you to read it and find out what I was rambling about.
