DEAD UNTIL DARK by Charlaine Harris

Genre: Vamp Romance

This is the first book in a series. Yes, this is a rather infamous series. If you don't know these books, you don't know vampire romance. Seriously, there's a whole TV show that's based on this series. You might know it. I personally think the TV show isn't nearly as good as the books and isn't accurate.

I really love how the author makes her vampires (If you're confused about that statement, there'll be a note at the end of this. It's interesting). The main character is named Sookie. Also personally, I think the name could've been a thousand times better but than I think about how horrible I am with names and I call myself a hypocrite. Anyway, they are rather small books and they are an easy read. You won't want to put it down because you'll hardly realize how much you've read. I think it's a pretty good series. I guess. I kinda stopped reading them though. I'm not sure how many books there are in this series but I've only read three total and they aren't in order. So yeah, I kinda abandoned this series, I'm not sure why.

In my grade book, this gets a high C. Almost a B. So close...

Summary:

Sookie is a waitress in the south. She really wants to meet a vampire, hoping that one might come by the bar. Oh, I forgot. She's also telepathic so she can read other people's minds. That means that literally everyone thinks she's crazy. As a result of that, she's a virgin and doesn't go out very much. She lives with her grandmother in a lonely house almost bordering in the middle of nowhere. And she has a brother, named Jason who's selfish, greedy and a tomcat (manho). But he's really handsome so girls sleep with him anyway. So Sookie is working one night when a vamp comes in. She's beyond happy. They get to know each other a bit more, he becomes her first ever boyfriend, and she is put in danger because of him. Honestly, what can one expect when dating a vampire? So she's in danger and he doesn't save her until it's too late. She ends up in the hospital all beaten up. You'll see why if you read it. You learn a lot about the area where she lives, her family, her friends, and the history of vampires. In the duration of this book, I do believe that she makes a startling revelation about her boss, Sam (you guys already know I love that name), who's very handsome by the way. He has blue eyes and blonde hair. Now that I think about it, he might be the reason why I'm obsessed with blond, blue eyed men who are named Sam. Hmm. If that's the case, read it only to see where most of my main love interests come from.

Anyway, there's the highlights of the first book. I told you it's short.

So, in continuation to the statement I made above, many authors give their vampires different traits and lore to fit into their stories. Every author who writes vamp romance does this, including yours truly. It's very interesting that vampires are so freely adapted. You can basically do whatever you want to vampire lore in your story and the audience will accept it. Charlaine Harris kept her vampires pretty close to the original vampire lore, made up by Bram Stoker. Yes, you might know the book I'm talking about. Everyone considers his vampire the very first vampire. So that's the original vampire lore, the one that all vamp romance authors look into before changing aspects of it. If only Bram could see the vampires of today...

He'd be sitting up in his grave, fangs out for blood.

Anyway, I liked how she kept it so close to the original.

So that's it folks.

Bye! Love yous!
