Dear Journal,

I was at Regulus' house today. His mother wasn't home which was good because Regulus told me he didn't want me to have to see her. He had told me how abusive she had been over the years. We were up in his room and we were sitting on his bed just talking for a while before I finally got the courage to bring up the elephant in the room.

"So... how are we going to get you out?"

He paused, "It's... going to be dangerous. Are you sure you want to actually do this?"

I put my hand on his, "I'd do anything for you, Reggie."

"Please be serious. I don't want you to do this just for me. I don't want you to get hurt. This thing we plan to do... it's going to be dangerous. And very complicated."

"It's okay," I assured him. I looked around the room as I realized something was missing. I looked back at Regulus, "Where's Kreacher?"

"Kreacher?" Regulus asked, "He's probably just... cleaning somewhere else at the moment. He does that."

His hands were shaking. He was trying to keep up some sort of act.

"Regulus?" I looked at him, seeing through his lie, "Where is Kreacher?"

He froze. He took in a deep breath, trying to come up with another excuse but he couldn't think of anything. He looked down at the floor, "He's on a mission for the Dark Lord..."

I paused, "How long has he been gone?"

I could sense the anxiety in his voice as he responded, "He's been gone since yesterday morning."

"Regulus. You need to call him back," I said.

He had been gone for far too long. Regulus was afraid, "W-why? H-he'll be back soon..."

I could see the tears threatening to spill frmo his eyes once more and I looked him directly in those astonishing eyes, "He's your house elf. Not You-Know-Who's." When Regulus was still silent, I squeezed his hand, "Regulus... He's your best friend."

He looked at me for a long moment. And then he nodded. He called out Kreacher's name and a few seconds later, Kreacher apparated into the room, only through special house elf magic. He was worn out, he was messy with a cut on his arm and dirt on his sack and he looked more tired than I had ever seen anyone look before.

Regulus froze when he saw the state of Kreacher. It made him feel sick.

"Kreacher..." he said as he stood up from the bed, "What happened to you?"

He told us everything. He told us how You-Know-Who took him to a cave. How You-Know-Who used his blood to get in. How they went across the lake inside. How he forced Kreacher to drink the potion. How he placed a horcrux in where the potion was. How he had left Kreacher weak and stranded all alone and on the verge of death. How he was only able to apparate back through the dark magic in the cave because Regulus had called for him.

Regulus felt a rush of emotions as he listened to Kreacher. Guilt, anger, horror, sadness. He had thought the mission would have been simple. That the Dark Lord just needed something from the cave and sent Kreacher there to get it but he should've known it was more complicated than that. He grabbed Kreacher and brought him against his chest, hugging him tightly.

When he finally let go, I spoke quietly, "Voldemort has horcruxes?"

Regulus looked at me for a moment before nodding, "Yes. We recently learned that the Dark Lord has horcruxes... and we suspect he has several of them."

"Regulus..." I looked at him seriously.

He nodded as we both thought the same thing.

We need to get that locket.
