Dear Journal,

Miraculously for me, I have been able to avoid Silas all year long. Not-so-miraculously for me, he approached me today.

I was outside on the green lawn of Hogwarts and I was sitting by the water fountain, reading one of my books that I had received from Margot for Christmas. Barty and Evan were hanging out, sitting against a tree about fifteen feet away. It was all peaceful until Silas sat next to me.

"Hey," he said, "What's that book you've got there?"

"Nothing," I said.

"I'm just asking a simple question," he said, "Come on, what book is it?"

"I don't want to talk to you," I told him.

Barty and Evan both looked up. It was like they could smell drama, they could sense that something was happening. I hoped they could sense how uncomfortable I was too.

"Oh, Merlin's Beard," Silas said, "It's not like I'm asking to screw you, I'm asking what book you're reading, is that so hard to answer?"

"I said I don't want to talk to you," I repeated myself.

"What, you got a problem with me wondering what you're reading or something?" he asked me as though I was the one in the wrong, "I'm asking you a simple question, just let me see the bloody book."

He reached for my book but I didn't even need to pull it away because right then, a flash of red light shot to Silas' chest and knocked him backward and onto the grass.

"She said she didn't want to talk to you, now leave her alone," Barty said as he approached Silas sprawled on the ground, his wand pointed directly at his nose, "Now, are you going to keep being a difficult bastard or am I going to send you to the hospital wing with every bone in that scrawny body of yours snapped into pieces?"

Silas scrambled to his feet and ran as fast as he could away from Barty. My jaw was dropped. I wanted to say thank you to Barty but I felt like I couldn't speak. He turned to me and said, "He ever gives you trouble again, let me know."

I nodded quickly and he went back to Evan.
