Under the cover of darkness, Ch-last, Uzi, N, and J made their way to the outskirts of the secondary base. The facility loomed ahead, its cold metal walls glinting under the dim moonlight. Despite its modest size compared to HQ's other installations, the building radiated an aura of menace, a reminder of the power HQ still held.
"Alright, let's move," Ch-last whispered, signaling the group forward.
N took the lead, using his experience with HQ's protocols to disable the outer alarms. Ch-last followed closely behind, keeping a watchful eye on the security cameras. They moved quickly and quietly, slipping through the shadows like ghosts. They couldn't afford to be seen.
Inside, the facility was eerily silent, the only sounds the faint hum of machinery and the soft clicks of security bots patrolling the halls. Uzi clenched her fists, fighting the urge to blast them to pieces. They had to stay under the radar.
J's voice crackled softly over the comms. "We're approaching the data center. Ch-last, are you ready?"
Ch-last glanced at Uzi, giving her a reassuring nod. "We're ready. Let's get what we came for."
They reached the entrance to the data center, a fortified room at the heart of the facility. Ch-last pulled out a small device—a jammer N had built to disable HQ's electronic locks—and carefully placed it on the door's access panel. After a few tense seconds, the lock clicked open.
"Nice work, N," Ch-last whispered, giving him a quick thumbs-up.
N grinned, clearly pleased with himself. "Anything for the team."
They slipped into the data center, eyes scanning the rows of computer servers and terminals. Uzi moved to the nearest terminal, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she searched for any mention of Nori or the project that had created the Disassembly Drones.
Suddenly, a line of text appeared on the screen. It was a file labeled Subject Nori: Archive Report.
Uzi's heart pounded as she clicked on the file, her eyes scanning the document. It was heavily redacted, with whole sections blacked out, but one phrase stood out: "Transferred to Alpha Facility—Status: Unstable."
Ch-last leaned over her shoulder, reading the file with a frown. "Unstable? What does that mean?"
Uzi's hands clenched into fists. "It means they did something to her. Something that made her... different." Her voice shook with anger, but she forced herself to stay calm. "We have to get to the Alpha Facility. That's where they're keeping her."
N nodded, his expression serious. "Then we'd better finish up here. We've got what we came for."
But as they turned to leave, an alarm suddenly blared, echoing through the facility. Red lights flashed, and the sound of heavy footsteps filled the halls. They'd been discovered.
"Time to move!" Ch-last shouted, drawing her weapon as they sprinted back toward the exit.
